USC charges $30 per game for fans to reserve a tailgate spot on campus before football games this season. Usually, it’s a small piece of grass in front of one of the academic buildings.
Now here’s the fun part: USC sends people around campus on game day to check every tailgate spot and make sure it is being used. If you paid $30 for a spot and you’re not there, they will bill you another $45.
So let’s say you decide to go to the Coliseum early for some reason (to meet friends, visit another tailgate, etc.) and you’re not there when they check? It’s a $45 penalty.
You can file an appeal but better have photo evidence or something to prove you were there.
Seems like a waste of manpower to me but that’s why I’m not an administrator.
- USC won’t offer a tailgate spot for the Rutgers game because tailgating is not allowed on weekdays.

The Rutgers game has a 8:00 pm PDT kickoff set for Friday 25th October….good night no wonder that match-up is exempt i.e. ‘no tailgating on weekdays (nights).
For next year the noth USC & the Big 10 had better demand Rutger play its’ games in the Meadowlands instead of in Piscataway….a <30 miles closer to mid-town.
