Morning Buzz: USC Ready To Add Offensive Lineman

Carde Smith, a four-star offensive tackle from Mobile, Ala., is expected to commit to USC this morning at 10 a.m. PT.

Smith was previously committed to Auburn.

USC desperately needs good offensive tackles so a four-star can’t hurt, right?

On the other hand, I asked some people who have seen Smith play and the comments were OK but not exactly overwhelming.

He is a “solid player. He is a right tackle but a little bit limited as a pure mammoth athlete.

“He could develop into a nice tackle but probably has a limited ceiling.”

It sounds like offensive line coach Josh Henson has to develop him. Who has Henson developed at USC? Someone can get back to me on that.

Also, do we need to mention our usual disclaimer, especially for Southern players, that we will wait until he signs before making any projections about where he fits into the program.

  1. — Nothing better than seeing people so excited they’re jumping up and down with joy

–Always wonder about kids from Alabama, who undoubtedly rooted for the Crimson Tide all their young life, ending up elsewhere

  2. OK so SC is weak on both lines, but what’s new?–and yet the Trojans win most of the time helped by quality quarterbacking– and so this ‘Most’ kid is the most likely to be the ‘answer’ ‘though don’t count out ‘Mylava’

  3. — And how about the SC receiving unit of Lemon ‘Kobe Duce & Branch, sounds like a law firm name but these guys play it straight, and based on the Bowl Game they are the real deal; now if they could only figure out a better way to weave Branch into the offense
