USC No. 23 In Coaches’ Poll

The preseason coaches’ poll is out and USC is ranked No. 23.

Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State and Michigan of the Big Ten are in the top 10.

Notre Dame is No. 7. There are four SEC teams in the top 10.

  • As expected, offensive tackle Carde Smith of Mobile, Ala., committed to USC this morning.

  1. -So the Top 10 is made up of SEC and Big 10 teams plus Notre Dame and Florida St, and then comes the balance. May as well start the 12-Team Playoffs now

  2. 23 sounds about right. The finish to last season was godawful, and IMO they have to prove they deserve a higher ranking.

  3. THE LSU game will reveal the truth. If SC wins they are wrong , if SC nearly wins they may be right or wrong. I think Penn St ,Oregon and ND are ranked too high.Georgia, OSU and ‘Bama with Texas are top 5 teams.

  4. USC has too much talent to be ranked this low. If the new coaching staff is worth its salt, we could be top 10. Right out of the gate, the LSU game will tell us a lot. If we win, the Michigan game shortly after might tell us even more.

    That said, we all saw the trainwreck that last season was. Grinch overstayed his welcome, and our offense became predictable. Both fall right at the feet of LR. How much we/he improved (or not) will be borne out by the coaching acumen on display.
