USC Notes: Offensive Line Developments

Aaron Dunn, a four-star offensive tackle from Spanish Fork, Utah, committed to Utah over USC and Oregon today.

  • USC offensive line coach Josh Henson said freshman Tobias Raymond was the likely backup at left tackle behind starter Elijah Paige. He also said right tackle Mason Murphy could switch to left tackle if Paige got hurt.

This doesn’t make me feel better about the offensive line. Even though Paige is untested, USC can’t really afford for him to get hurt.

  2. Scooter,

That is disturbing news that SC can’t get an olinman and they have to depend upon a freshman for back up. Back in the day, It usually was a junior or senior starting, then a sophmore waiting and then the freshman that were just learning how to put on pads. This does not sound good.

  3. Bibles of truth from Pasadena. As the O-line goes, so goes the offense. And this could be a particularly brutal truism in the Big10. Yikes!

Now what can be done? Better recruiting? A better approach to the transfer portal? Better coaching? More resources? If the O-line isn’t operable at a respectable level right away, it will be a long-looooooonnnng season.

What is Pat Ruel doing these days? Just curious… Like PC, would welcome giving him (or that pair!) a consulting gig on their old football program. Experience and knowledge can help, if the HC/program is receptive to it… but that might be another problem…
