USC Sunday Buzz: Big Assist From Oregon State

I’m hearing the first week of practices confirmed that linebacker Easton Mascarenas-Arnold and safety Akili Arnold are going to be vital pieces of the defense.

“They manage to flash in practices every day, which they should because they were top Pac-12 players last year,” a USC coach said.

It’s true that the defense is always ahead of the offense the first week of training camp but if the defense is going to be better, a huge reason will be the addition of Oregon State players.

Think about that. USC needs Oregon State players to play good defense. Some coaches would roll over in their graves if they knew this . . . and I knew several of them, so I’m speaking from experience.

OLYMPIC MOMENT OF THE DAY

This is the most amazing feat of the Olympics. Running the 5,000 and 10,000 meters and the winning the gold medal in the marathon.

It’s the constant negativity from the Wolfman that’s contributed to this blog becoming a ghost town. The knucklehead just doesn’t get it.

    1. He never escaped the late 80’s, poor kid. Had Scottie looked past the logo & taken in that we’re in the transfer portal era, he would understand that Jonathan Smith’s program was on the rise & he had some ballers.

  2. Curry hitting 4 in a row down the stretch and the bias French announcer saying, “oh noooooooo. No no no. How is this possible?” was pretty funny

    1. The French announcer was great – ” Mais,no! Mais no!!”

Although, when he said “How is this even possible?” For some reason, I thought of Frances’ reaction to the Maginot line being breached in WW2.

  3. After 26-miles the 2 women were neck-and-neck and it took a sprint the last 200 yards to win that race. Petty amazing

College football has changed since the introduction of the Portal where teams can poach players from other schools

  4. –Happy of course for the USA men and women’s Olympic basketball wins, but felt a bit sad for the host French as their teams played very well too

  5. One of the stand-outs at the Olympics was the combination Gymnastics&Diving, having to do acrobatic things with your body. Now that was amazing stuff

    1. Once they’re gone, they’re gone. They cannot be recreated, the way Kamala & Walz are trying to recreate their pasts.

Let’s hope they don’t remember Vance calling Trump “America’s Hitler” or saying he was a moral disaster.

  6. Curry’s daggers were a sight to behold.  And the French commentators were gravy…

@BTC… I don’t think this post was “negative” – but instead begs a real question: if this talent slipped by USC the first time, what is the coaching staff doing now to avoid such misses?  LR, we go to you to block…

But traditional USC would never dumpster-dive in the perennial cellar of the PAC10 for talent to rescue its defense.  That, and Scott needs to stop rolling over in his grave.

  7. Id even take JackHammer to play linebacker/fullback…. Oh ya…SC doesn’t have a position called fullback. Perhaps the most crucial position on the offense if you really understand how offense works and how much your fb does for you and in so many ways and can be a dagger for big plays if you have an athletic one.
