USC Morning Buzz: A Forgotten Tradition?

If you like tradition, you know the Coliseum torch is usually lit during the Olympics.

Especially when Los Angeles hosts the 2028 Olympics.

Well, guess what. The torch wasn’t lit Friday. In fact, it wasn’t lit for other days either. I know it was lit Wednesday, at least. But it feels like it got lit when someone felt like doing it.

  • Four-star offensive tackle Kodi Greene of Mater Dei announces his college commitment today at 1:45 p.m. The Class of 2026 prospect has Michigan, Oregon, USC, and Washington as his finalists.

Why does someone from the Class of 2026 need to commit today?

  • Did you see the concert at the end of the Closing Ceremony last night at the Olympics? NBC said Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Billie Eilish performed from “Venice.”

They actually performed from Long Beach and taped the concert on Saturday. I’m sure the fans and athletes in Paris loved watching a pre-recorded concert fron Long Beach on the video screens.

This performance of the U.S, national anthem by H.E.R. that was actually inside the Stade de France was better if you wanted to see a good performance.

  1. Come on L.A., even the Italian ‘statue-makers’ usually put heads on their work. But in L.A. “anything goes’

  2. I feel for the audience having to put up with some singers on t.v. I thought I read where Dogg was in town (Paris)

  3. Funny how the lure of hosting the Olympics for Paris got the city to spend money cleaning up the Seine River after 200-years of doing nothing.– Maybe such a ‘lure’ will get L.A. trying to clean-up some things

  4. This kid is just becoming a junior, so he’s like 16. By commanding such a college frenzy for his talents, you think for the next 2-years he’s not the biggest thing on campus

But can you imagine the ‘girl attention’ this 16-year old is going to get?–“Sorry Susie but I’m booked for the next 6-months”

  6. Scooter,

Too bad that the torch was not lit at the Colisuem. Many traditions are falling by the wayside such as SC being dominate in football and baseball, oline All Americans, and a strong and determined team
