USC Morning Buzz: How Moss Won Job?

There wasn’t much difference between Miller Moss and Jayden Maiava before Lincoln Riley made his decision Monday afternoon.

“They both were doing good things and making plays in practice,” said a USC coach. “The thing is, a tie goes to Miller given all the time he has spent in the program and the trust he has built with his teammates from all the years he has been at USC.”

The plan going forward is simple: If Moss succeeds, he will be the QB the rest of the season. If he struggles, Maiava will get his chance.

Maybe the crazy part is the first start of the season gets to be against LSU. Now the Tigers are perhaps a bigger mystery than USC, so it could go either way.

But Moss will certainly have a high-profile start with LSU and Michigan among the first three games.

  1. This is quite an inauguration for Most, he gets one of the best from the South in LSU and later gets Michigan, the defending national champs. But apparently he has a bruiser of a running back to help him out, and there is ‘Branch and the guys to throw to

  3. ‘Mylava’ took a chance coming to SC, from a first stringer to becoming a second stringer is not what he had in mind

  4. By the third game, it will be Jayden’s job……watch!…….Riley is throwing Moss a bone for sticking around. My sources tell me Jayden is the better all-around QB. It’s a disservice to Jayden that Riley is pulling this crap.

  5. Mylava might be the better athlete with his running ability, but Most has a a very confident ‘pocket presence’ and throwing the football is 90% of a quarterback’s job

  6. Can’t wait to let the season play out. Moss did well enough in the bowl game vs. Louisville to show he has the chops, and he knows the system. The team will rally around him. Not worried much about the QB position. More worried about the O-line. A solid commitment to a running game will help both situations out considerably…
