USC Notes: Players Emerge In LSU Game

I’m going to again mention defensive tackle Gavin Meyer because there are always players who don’t get the publicity they deserve.

He had a nice opening game and has been completely overshadowed this offseason by the coaches/media obsession with Bear Alexander. But Meyer deserves praise today.

  • Linebacker Eric Gentry re-emerged last night and looked like he did in 2022. He had seven tackles, two tackles for loss and deflected a pass.
  • Someone definitely neutered the towel waivers in Las Vegas. Let’s hope it continues.
  • The USC-LSU game drew 9.2 million viewers. That’s a big number, especially given the DirecTV-Disney fiasco.
  • Sometimes it feels like Kirk Herbstreit tries to water down pretty much everything. Did you hear him say Oregon beating Idaho by 10 points (24-14) was a “little bit of a surprise.”

Idaho was a 44-point underdog. A little bit of a surprise?

  • The attendance of 63,969 was an Allegiant Stadium record. The Super Bowl in February between the 49ers-Chiefs drew 61,629.

  1. Out of the nearly 64,000 in attendance it sounded as if 44,000 were for LSU, and their constant yelling throughout the game added to the magic of last night

      1. Buddha, what do you think of the following for Wolf’s report card vs LSU:

        QB B+

        WR B-

        RB C-

        OL C-

        DL B-

        LB B

        DB C-

        Special Teams C

Coaching C- (An implicit “B” for Lynn partially offsets a “D” for Riley)

    1. Wrong Buddha. Disney owns ABC. They blocked out the game on ESPN and ABC for Direct customers. I was one of them. Had to buy the game from FUBO. Missed half of the first quarter.

      1. Lay off Disney. “They’re good people” —according to the Chinese Communist Party ….. [which owns control of their shares]…

    2. that’s not how it works. Disney owns ESPN & ABC. DirecTV is nothing more than a provider of content, in this case Disney’s content.

    1. As they say in San Francisco, “Kamala sure does a pretty fair impersonation of a black woman…but it doesn’t really fool anybody who’s actually met or worked with her.”

      1. Cowardly Gabby is sad that you exposed his latest lie- she didn’t go to the rally or game because she doesn’t live in Las Vegas. She is a LA Skid Row bag lady.

    1. Big jump by USC, 14 spots to No. 9. LSU drops 6 spots to No. 16. ND jumps up 2 spots to No. 5 and and TAM falls to No. 34.

I understand USC’s jump based on their defensive play against a very good LSU offense. The rest doesn’t make a lot of sense. ND seemed evenly matched with TAM. They are not a top 5 team. USC will beat them at home. And Oregon did not look like the No. 6 team in the country although I suppose they have the talent to rank in the top 10.
