Lincoln Riley Needs To Embrace Competition

Michigan and Notre Dame lost last weekend. Are they out of the College Football Playoff race?

Neither looks good enough for the playoff. But they aren’t out of the picture because they lost last weekend. They will be out because they have terrible offenses.

Here’s the point: Lincoln Riley is wrong to be against playing Notre Dame because it might knock USC out of the playoff.

That loss in itself would not eliminate USC from a 12-team playoff.

It only would if USC had other losses, in which case it isn’t good enough anyways.

There’s actually more of a cushion for teams in the 12-team playoff era. Riley is just averse to playing good teams.

  1. Yes, USC absolutely should play ND every year. I doubt the university will ever let that go, there would be an uprising among the alums who write big checks.

    If the USC coach was:

    Bill Belichick:

“He was exposed after he let Brady go. Can’t connect with high school players. You can only rely on the portal so much.”

    Nick Saban:

“Turns out just about anybody can coach Alabama. Even Kiffin and Sark succeeded there as coordinators. He was nothing special at Michigan St. and was under .500 in the NFL.”

    Bill Walsh:

“West Coast Offense? Doesn’t he know this is Tailback U? There is nothing worse in football than seeing a bubble screen blow up.”

    John Madden:

“Pretty good at coaching, but better video game and at tailgating. You don’t wear size 50 pants by looking away from the pulled pork “

  2. It is hilarious that your whole goal seems to be to make yourself look smarter than the USC coach. You are just comedy for the USC family. What have you ever accomplished? Have you ever won anything? Why should we think that you know anything that you are talking about?

  3. For sure USC should play big marquee non conference games. Much larger margin for error with 12 team playoff plus huge national showcase with all those games.

Case and point – if we played Fresno State Week 1 instead of LSU, nobody would be trumpeting USC being as good as it is.
