If It’s Friday, It’s Time For A USC Notes Column

The photo above is from the 1982 USC-UCLA game.

  • I always get a kick out of USC fans who name safeties who played 15 years ago as the greatest. Are they aware of Artimus Parker, who was an All-American in 1973?

Parker intercepted 20 passes in his USC career. No player in the history of USC has intercepted more passes. And he did it in an era when teams weren’t pass happy like today.

  • Imagine a USC practice where you could rely on Chip Banks at linebacker. In the first picture, he is with teammate Tim Sullivan.
  • Good luck ever having lunch with Lincoln Riley.
  • An All-Star football team attempts to stop a Chevrolet at the Coliseum in 1926.
  • Imagine a world where USC students could take a bus from campus to the UCLA game at the Rose Bowl. It happened in 1982.

RESTAURANT OF THE WEEK

USC became a lesser place for dining when it got rid of the Sizzler on Figueroa St.

PICTURE OF THE WEEK

Who is this? It’s Danish actress and 1950’s pin-up girl Greta Thyssen.

VIDEO OF THE WEEK

Olivia Rodrigo is a Trojan. If you are not familiar with her music, here’s a good transition as she honors Carly Simon.

    1. There’s a shocker- women don’t look as good as in their touched up pictures? Next you will tell us all the Friends don’t still hang out together in New York City.

  1. -Guess we’ll have to stick with Charming and Prince-

Charming: And of course I’m bucking up against the mysogynists, the women-haters, but we’re used to it ever since early cavemen would have their women complaining that “My man hasn’t dragged me anywhere fun in months”

Prince: Yes, being a woman looks like too hard a job

    1. In March 2020, Tara Reade told The Katie Halper Show that in 1993, Biden forced an unwanted encounter on her. She said Biden pushed her against a wall on the Capitol grounds, kissed her, and then digitally penetrated her — all against her will.

  2. A date back in 1981. Get the girl drunk on stale beer at the campus tailgate party. Take the bus to the Rose Bowl followed by the S3.99 steak dinner at Sizzler. Things seemed to be much easier and cheaper back in the day.

  3. I find it interesting that you feel the need to criticize whoever we have as coach at the moment. There must be some psychological explanation for this. Dr. Phil, weigh in here.

    1. Back in the day, there was an adversarial relationship between the press and whoever was in power. Think Sam Donaldson. That even extended to sports. Think T.J. Simmers. I think some of that rubbed off on Scott. He seems at home playing the adversary.

      1. 100%! If Scott started a Friday piece off with “I love apple pie and America so much it makes me crazy –I hope I haven’t offended anybody!”, we’d all be worried for him……

  4. . No political stuff today so far. However Pope Francis implicitly endorsed Kamala today. We have to vote for the lesser of two evils said the Pontiff.

      1. Hate to say this as a Catholic —but —the Pope isn’t an honest broker. Ever since the Vatican was given that one billion “loan” from the Chinese Communist Party, the Pope says what they tell him to say. In this particular case, he said “deporting [illegal] immigrants is every bit as anti-life as abortion.” Ponder the logic of that remark…..

  6. Charming: Still, let’s see if sound bites get through the Censor’s Guard Gates before spelling out the entire thought– But the Pope has officially declared that any abortion is the “killing of a human being,” as he put it, even in the first month

Prince: We have more to say but this Censor-thing is holding things up, you know what I’m saying?

  7. Charming: Good, that one got through. So, continuing, “The Pope said he didn’t like either yours or my approach to abortion, of course not mine, but also inferentially saying that you were ‘fudging’ on enforcing the old Wade v Roe which qualifies you as a “murderer”, but to a lesser degree than me So in his eyes you are ‘Satan’ and I am ‘Satan’ with a better smile

Prince: Yeah, abortion!- I didn’t want to get into the issue, it’s too loaded and won’t win me any of your democrats’ votes

      1. I’m just spit balling here, John — but —-is there any chance Scott turned “moderation” over to the “person formerly known as tebow” as part of a secret peace agreement…?

Meanwhile Mich didn’t score many points against an outmanned cupcake
