Some Post-Michigan Game Reaction Is Embarrassing

I’ve been dismayed since the Michigan game ended to see some USC fans constantly complain about the officiating.

They believe there was some sort of conspiracy by the Big Ten to make sure USC lost its first conference game. Do you know that the head referee, Chris Coyte, was actually a Pac-12 official who has moved to the Big Ten?

I’m not defending the officiating but these fans make the program look so small with their whining. I bet they didn’t mind that USC benefitted from many questionable calls in that narrow 17-14 victory over Oregon State two years ago.

USC is a major player in the Big Ten and its games are getting a lot of attention. More than it did in the Pac-12. It doesn’t need a narrow band of whiners to ruin the image of Trojan football. These people need to remember the foundations of the program were built by fierce competitors. Not by bashing officials.

Now this has caused Michigan fans to complain back, which creates an endless cycle.

I thought Gabby said a few days back that he was going to the USC marching band pep rally today at the Palms at 2:00 and wanted to “meet up” with Scott. Instead, he spent the day trolling the blog. Once again a threat followed by a no show. That’s our Cowardly Gabby. All talk, no walk.

  1. As Budda noted, Sports Illustrated ripped the officiating, noting how one-sided it was, including the Michigan fourth down when Orji failed to get the snap before the clock ran out. That was an obvious one, and it would have given the ball to the Trojans.

But even if one goes with the old “lots of calls were missed on both sides”, what happened to Makai Lemon was horrendous. The guy is in the hospital. He was locked up by one guy and then a second guy came over to knock him out. No place for that. The second guy should have been thrown out of the game. Is that what Michigan football stands for?

  2. USC lost primarily because they could not block Michigan’s defensive line. Stewart of Michigan annihilated both Paige and Murphy. He didn’t do that to Texas. The interior D line also pushed around Monheim and Noa. So what do you do from here. Move Monheim to left tackle and replace him with Gino Quinones? Replace Noa with Talalele? This is more than a lack of communication. We were overmatched and drastic changes are warranted. Looking forward to Josh Henson’s press conference. You gotta lotta explaining to do!

    1. Good take. Also if you still have the game on DVR, watch the first two Michigan TDs.  Ramsey took a bad angle at the RB both times.  As Ramsey went inside from the safety position, the RB quickly cut to the outside and ran for TDs.  He was the last hope to make a tackle but was out of position.

      1. Anybody not fixated on making a QB change [the first option of a person with no experience in any type of leadership position …and no realistic possibility of ever being in one] can see we have a Henson Problem — Riley said adios to Grinch ….but kept Henson….

      2. Deflecting away from an obvious issue with Moss…. typical approach for a coward.

Just blame it on the O-line that Moss is one-dimensional and limited. Blame on the O-line that Moss, after three games has failed to run for a first down or rush for a positive gain. Blame it on the 0-line that Moss stared down his receiver on the last pick-6. Blame it on the O-line that Riley has to limit the plays he can use with Moss

MG…..where are all the RPOs that have been a staple of Riley’s offense success!

Yesterday Gabby admitted that he had no intention of appearing for a boxing match. “Nobody fights over what is said on a blog.” He was incredulous that anyone should ask for an apology. (Posting fraudulently as steveg) In Gabby’s world, men are not the protectors and providers for their families. You can insult their wives, daughters, and mothers with impunity. He has has no code of honor and therefore believes that nobody else should live by one. Although he admits that he will not back up his words with a boxing match, he has now dishonesty posted at least 10 times the exact same response about how he showed up at the gym in Miami. Is this suppose to be amusing? Please stop ruining our blog with repetitive copy and paste posts.

    2. Moss didn’t help the cause by not making adjustments…….there is no crime in rolling out and picking up positive yards with your legs……instead of the constant back peddling….

The D-ends were collapsing down and giving up containment in favor of a straight shot at Moss. This left a lot of room for Moss to take off down the sideline….

Riley missed the mark by not changing it up with Maiava

      1. I would not have replaced Moss but I do agree that there was some opportunities for him to run. He could have picked up 5 to 10 yards on some of those RPOs. Leinart would occasionally bootleg and dump it off to the tight end or receiver. Moss can do this better than Leinart.

        Liked by 1 person

      2. One problem, the plays you questioned were not RPOs. If they were, Moss was totally miss-reading his keys

Pete never ran any true RPOs……perhaps leinart had a run option if the receiver didn’t get separation

At least you’re honest with what was taking place on the field. We have one member who lives in denial regarding Miller’s skill-set

…what is the difference between the success of Leinart, Booty and Sanchez against Top 15 teams and Miller Moss’ showing against Michigan? The fact they were dual threats? Or the fact they played behind first rate 0-lines?

      4. Says the guy who can’t get his head around the fact Moss is one-dimensional and is limiting Riley’s playbook and the efficiency of the offense……..

After three games the guy has minus 29 yards rushing, zero first downs, and three picks-6 in his first four starts……wake up fool…..you sound stupid

      5. I’ll begrudgingly say this much: there is some truth to what you’re saying. But…if you think switching Moss out isn’t gonna create problems you’re not listening to player interviews. The entire offense likes & respects Miller Moss [and they play harder for him than they played for “dual threat'” Caleb Williams last year]….

      6. Like and respect don’t win games…..you gain respect by winning games…….not back peddling all game….The Moss shine will dull quickly

I wouldn’t be riding you so hard if I thought Moss was better then Maiava. This team can only go as far as Moss can take it. It’s not his fault he doesn’t have the foot speed to take his game to the next level. He might be the slowest starting Power 4 QB.

        4-star….. tooooooo funnnnny!…….

      7. Do a little research — all rating services had Miller rated as 4 star coming out of high school …

Although Jayden was rated a 4 star transfer, he was only rated a 3 star prospect out of high school….. his 40 time has never been under 5 seconds….

Phil Steele rates Miller as the #11 QB….Jayden as # 49….

    3. THE O-LINE HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE PICK-6 OR THE ABILITY TO MAKE A KEY TACKLE LATE IN THE GAME.

  3. Moss is more mobile that Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Dan Marino, and Matt Stafford. But you have to give these quarterbacks or any quarterback at least 3 seconds to find the receiver and deliver the ball. The offensive line did not do that. I don’t think putting in Maiava solves that problem even though he can run. He still needs time to find a receiver. And I have more respect for Moss than virtually any other current Trojan. He takes a shot and keeps fighting. You have to respect that and that type of fight helps your team win.

    1. Gabby (Real, Real Not Smart) doesn’t understand team dynamics. He actually thinks you can pull a kid everybody has rallied around since the Holiday Bowl and it won’t demoralize the team.

What Miller did at Ann Arbor with inadequate protection from Murphy and Paige was pretty extraordinary.
