I’m already seeing some analysis that USC struggled in the first half and was excellent in the second half.
No, no, no, no, no.
USC faced a Wisconsin team with a below average quarterback. That was known before the game. And somehow the Badgers managed to complete a 63-yard TD pass on their first possession.
The rest of the first half was an illustration of how bad the USC offensive line was and the defensive line wasn’t much better.
The huge second-half turnaround came on two moments: Wisconsin fumbled a punt deep in its own territory that led to a touchdown for USC.
Wisconsin then had a fourth-and-1 and decided to run the ball out of the shotgun. What a disastrous decision. Sometimes it feels like coaches want to lose games. The play was easily stopped (the tight end wasn’t even blocking) and the game was pretty much done right there.
This game showed what an at often-times-average team USC is. They looked average most of the game. But will it make a difference against one-dimensional competition? Wisconsin was actually moving the ball with its inept offense but it has no ability to mount a comeback.
- Lincoln Riley did a poor job too. What was the clock management at the end of the first half? How were there nine men on the field for an extra point? That’s the fourth time in two weeks USC hasn’t had the right number of men on the field. What are they coaching Zacariah Branch on fielding punts? Has he improved the offensive line at all from last year?
I’m the BEST arm chair coach.

The D held Wisconsin to 86 yards of total offense in second half. Hoping Gentry will be back for Penn State. The O-line needs a miracle worker between now and then.

So amazing that the cornerstone for every successful program is a good O line- even Steve Sarkisian figured that out! Yet, LR thinks his offense is so good that it trumps the necessity for quality O line players… Just amazes me that it’s an afterthought in this regime…. And as for Special Teams, clock management, etc will LR also figure out that these are consistently highly deficient areas of performance and have to be corrected if you ever want to be thought of as a top rated program?

Scott has a point. There are some glaring weaknesses on this team. But this team fights when their down 14 points and getting beat on the line of scrimmage and comes back. That is rare and exciting to watch. And this is not last years team. Most of the best players, particularly on defense, are transfers and they are coached by great coaches. So if Riley and Henson can figure out how to improve the blocking and get receivers open on short routes, we have a chance to win a few more games. Maybe even get into the playoffs. The Penn St. game will show us what we have – good or bad.

I’ve got to agree with Wolfman on this one. For the second week in a row USC offensive line was manhandled and their defensive line was gashed a number of times. Don’t expect Miller Moss to survive the season with the beating he’s been taking the last two weeks. It’s not the number of sacks but the number of hits he’s been taking.

SC lost to an average Michigan team

Michigan beat them with a backup one dimensional QB and exploiting SC’s awful OL
Wisconsin was in the game with a backup QB and exploiting SC’s awful OL
In three years Riley and Hansen have FAILED in making the OL better.

LINCOLN GET A SPECIAL TEAMS COACH AND WORK ON IT
The D line is too small, gets pushed around
The O line is too small and too slow, poorly coached. Example #72 Page consistently blocked inward to double team interior rusher while outside rusher had a straight shot to QB
Miller Moss is a tough dude, like a Timex takes a kickin’ and keeps on tickin’.

Yardage is nice but have to finish with touchdowns as shown by Auburn’s 500-yards to Oklahoma’s 300, although I thought it was that game that featured the ‘Hail Mary’ at the end to win it for Auburn, and was at first ruled a touchdown! But upon review, over-turned.
This leaves both sides’ fans in limbo, who won?– Maybe they should call it a tie

You would think the coach’s poll would be informative, but given the turnaround time to submit their ballots, they must have a 20-something staffer filling it out. For example, Georgia received at least one number 1 vote, perhaps more, USC received at least one vote at number 23, Michigan received one vote at number 8, despite running a 1940s offense that barely beat Minnesota, some voted Utah at number 10, which would have been no change from last week, despite losing by 13 to unranked Arizona.
