Former Wisconsin coach Barry Alvarez texted CBS announcer Brad Nessler during the USC game because Nessler said Alvarez was probably questioning the fourth-and-1 call where the Badgers went out of a shotgun formation.
“You are correct, my friend,” Alvarez texted.
Alvarez said this week he would have run the ball the whole game if he were the coach.
“I’d love to coach a game like that,” Alvarez said. “They might not see a pass in the second half. It would be the shortest second half in Camp Randall history, and we had a lot of short ones. I’d run that clock, that game would be over. We’d be home having cocktails at 3:30 p.m.”
It’s amazing today the number of genius coaches who think a shotgun formation works in short-yardage obvious running plays.
Do you think USC would have liked to see a QB sneak with the quarterback under center on that fourth-and-1? No way.
Also, can you imagine Pete Carroll texting an announcer during the game to agree with a USC poor play call?
I’m sure no words are sufficient to express the gratitude the Wisconsin coaching staff feels toward Barry Alvarez…..

Alvarez isn’t wrong, but coaches like him are gone

MG, isn’t that exactly what MICH did to SC last week?

…to Scott’s point —Carroll would never comment on Helton’s coaching in the Cal game [where we stayed in shotgun on 1st and goal and kept playing a center who either snapped the ball over the QB’s head or dribbled it to him on the ground]…

I’m saying MICH ran the Alvarez offense to great effect against SC. WISC was too stupid to copy it.

The censor [crazily] prevented me from saying Orji couldn’t hit the side of a barn ….and we could have put 10 guys up front to stop Michigan’s last drive….

That was a good joke some critic wrote, and the Censor kills it. Wolf has to be validating this, to what end only he knows

Is it possible that certain words trigger censorship? I consistently get in trouble for the words “safety” and “center.”

has anyone noticed all the bad calls that even in replay were botched. They all have one thing in common. They were all overruled or supported by replay at the league office. And the benaficiaries were all the conference leaders or favorites for the title and playoffs. Miami v Va Tech, Michigan V Minnesota and even all the non reviewed and non reviewable calls Michigan v USC. Starting to look like the conferences are propping up their contenders

Yes the onside kick call at the end of the Minnesota game was especially egregious- anyone could see that Minnesota was not offside.

I will the BIG’s referees over the PAC 12. They seem to allow much more holding and physical play. But, I am still upset with the hit on Micah Lemon. Anybody hear how he is doing?

Anyone who thought the Big Ten refs wouldn’t favor the traditional powers over the newbies from the Pac 12 was kidding themselves….

It doesn’t seem likely that Wolf would be Paying someone to read and censor some of the comments, his blog doesn’t generate that much income. So Wolf must be doing the censoring himself, but why? He now has the most censored blog in L.A.
