Do you ever listen to the Trojans Live show? I don’t recommend it.
Here is Lincoln Riley tonight: “You have to keep perspective. If you change two plays this year, then we’re 5-0 and we feel like we’re world beaters and we’re worried about being over confident.”
So he is doubling-down on Saturday when he made similar comments.
“Our team is very battle tested. I’d be surprised if there’s another team in the country that is more battle tested than we are. Now we’ve got to make that our advantage.”
It’s great to be battle-tested with two losses. Will USC make the College Football Playoff now that it is battle-tested?
Two plays from 2-3.

Could have been 2 plays from 1-4

SC was favored in its 2 losses to Mich and Minnie so I don’t see how that means the Trojans are “battle tested”

There is always so much talk about Riley and the Heismans. You realize that Norm Chow has a more accomplished record of heisman winner and placing. 3(Detmer, Palmer and Leinart) runner up (Young) third (Bosco) not to mention in 1 year turning a nobody into a future hall of famer (Philip Rivers) at NC st. Other than Palmer, none of these guys were super special in HS. Every one Riley had Im pretty sure was a 5 star. His 3rd placer was already a star at Bama Jaylen Hurts.

IF all our guys [including Lucas, Gentry and Lake McRee] play on Saturday I think USC will beat Penn State.

The Coach Harvey Hyde analysis that SC needs to shift offense to draw plays and play-actions to help the O line is self-obvious to those who know football but not the HC. Riley has shown he is flexible enough to build a strong defense, but once again he is on a steep learning curve with the offense which won’t work with a young O line. Hyde is teaching the HC some 3rd grade stuff for football.

If football coaches relish the ‘fame’ when winning they better be able to endure the losing when their ‘fans’ begin to pile-on you with disdain

The sad fact is SC footballl hasn’t been consistently relevant since Pete left after 2009, and a primary reason is the Trojans don’t attract enough local kids. Pete was a natural at it but Wiles is more introverted and why he doesn’t shine when speaking in public

Right, for some football is more than just football, it is ‘footballl!

So much of a football game can turn on one single play like a fumble here or a missed tackle there. So a Coach can honestly say that ‘We were one-play away from winning that Michigan game, but for that one play, the 63-yarder by Michigan, we win’

Aside from the Top-5 college football teams, the remaining 6-thru-30 look close to even, so most teams go into games thinking they have a chance at the win
And apparently college ball is here to stay with numbers up everywhere and as evidenced by crowd reactions at SC’s Michigan and Minnesota games

So it still means something around the country to beat SC but the Trojans’ reputation was built on past glory years, and Troy needs to start anew

Maybe Riley should not stop scheduling challenging non-conference games. It seems he doesn’t want to risk losses with those games, but they do make your team “battle-tested”. They dont really hurt you if you lose, and really help you if you win. It’s a shame Riley thinks otherwise regarding scheduling philosophies.
