USC finally shows some life on the 75-yard reverse by Quinten Joyner and it’s 7-3.
Penn State drives right down field and USC gets a little lucky as an offensive pass interference penalty negates a TD. It’s 3-0.

- In the offseason, I thought USC would win this game. One reason was James Franklin’s record against Top 25 teams at Penn State (12-26).
Lincoln Riley likes to lose to Top 25 teams too at USC (3-7) so maybe it’s not a valid reason.
Riley’s fooled me twice this season by losing games USC should have won.
But the difference now is there is no pressure on USC. The season goals aren’t really there today. Penn State has a lot on the line. On paper, Penn State should win.
But I’m taking USC because at some point they have to show something . . . no matter how arrogant the mannequin on the sideline acts. USC 27, Penn State 24.

…..how much longer will Riley be permitted to implode the program with awful 2nd half game mgmt.? This is the 3rd loss that echos what Mark Sanchez noted on the real reason teams lose game. It’s not so much the other team is better as it is you throw the game away by penalties, squandered time outs and poorly coached decisions.
Riley is a great OC but it is becoming graphically apparent he is an incompetent head coach.

Awful. Riley snatched defeat from the jaws of victory, including horrendous clock management at end of regulation. Refs didn’t help either, letting two obvious PIs go.

A trait of a good team is to win close games. All 3 losses they had a chance close it out. They’re a .500 team but Riley will say they’re 3 plays from being undefeated.

This loss, like several of the others, is 100% Riley’s fault. Who but a numbskull lets 30 seconds run off the clock with 44 seconds left on the other team’s 46 yard line. He put huge pressure on his players with that stupidity.
On top of that, the team had its principal offensive success on screens and running the ball without slow developing counters. Riley completely went away from what was working in the 3rd quarter.
Another sickening unnecessary loss.

as a coach he has shown no improvement in his teams or coaching ability. He was forced to get rid of his friend as DC. He does not understand the significance of the Notre Dame rivalry. He is able to take over the baseball field territory. He makes excuses but does not change things. There are obvious problems with coaching and attitude. I hope he is put on the hot seat by Jen so he flys off to thE NFL. Feel we should have taken a chance on Saban.
