USC Notes: Some Telling Defensive Facts

USC’s defense ranks 118th nationally in sacks with just six in six games. It did not have a sack yesterday.

  • USC ranks 98th nationally in fourth-down conversions defense. Opponents are 8 for 13 on fourth down.
  • Four-star defensive lineman Tomuhini Topui (2026) of Mater Dei High School committed to Oregon over USC and Oklahoma. I’m not even sure USC coaches care because they spend all their time in Georgia and seem incapable of landing Mater Dei recruits.
  • This nonsense needs to stop. Watch Lincoln Riley walk by at the end. He allows it.

  1. Lincoln Riley is no closer to bringing a national championship to USC than Clay Helton. If I’m a blue high schooler I’m going with Oregon too. They had a tough fought game against Ohio St and WON! We have little chance of beating these teams with Riley. Riley needs to go!

  2. UCLA’s defensive stats last year were padded by playing Coastal Carolina, San Diego State, North Carolina Central, and Utah with their 3rd string QB. They also had Latu on the d-line who was the first defensive player picked in the draft this year.

    1. And Latu was a fluke for UCLA, he was a four star recruit who went to UW but only left after he injured his neck and the Husky team doctors wouldn’t give him the ok to resume playing.

  3. Riley had the guts to make a change at QB to Williams when he was at Oklahoma. He now needs to show those same guts and make the change to Maiava. There was a reason Moss was a back up QB most of his time with USC. In crucial moments when the game has been on the line these past few weeks, he looks like a second string QB. Time to make the change.

    1. NAILED IT!!!!…..”In crucial moments when the game has been on the line these past few weeks, he looks like a second string QB. Time to make the change.”

I truly believe that if Maiava had been the starter from day one, this team might be undefeated. Moss is getting worse. The guy has “MINUS” 49 YARDS RUSHING ON THE SEASON. F U CK ING INSANE. The RPOs are gone.

But this limp–d i c apologist, aka Maui fraud, continues to throw shade at Moss. The guy has no idea what he’s taking about 95% of the time, yet he makes 50 posts daily. He looks foolish and needs to STFU!

  4. Almost every coach has flaws…. Even if you fired Riley, who would you get to replace him? Are they any better? There are only two coaches that I would have full confidence in, and they are both in their 70’s!!!

  5. The kid who committed to Nike U is EXACTLY why USC is in the situation they are in.

NIL or no, Riley cannot recruit the big uglies

    1. LR is so far up his own Arse. He emptily accepts blame for their losses, yet continues to give excuses. Yet, he changes nothing in his coaching philosophy. Dan Lanning coach of O actually purposely put 12 men on the field knowing O would get penalized yet knew that extra time ran off the clock as a result of the penalty- 4 seconds. Do you wish our jack arse of coach would have like to have more time on the clock to run his offense at the end of regular time? O ya- he had 3 timeouts and didnt use them because he’s soooo smart.

  6. Has the USC team improved over the Helton era? How about over the Grinch defense of last year? They have clearly improved! We are still weak on the offensive line and lack depth on the defensive line. Thank you Bear Alexander and his surrogate Dad. But please have a little perspective. We are a better team than last year. Four of our six games were close and could have gone either way. That is true with many programs including Alabama. I am not happy with Riley’s game management and think that we should have beat Michigan, Minnesota, and Penn State but I do not believe that we cannot rebound under this coaching staff. You guys once extolled Kalen DeBoer, Luke Fickell, Dave Aranda, ect., and nobody is doing much better than Riley. It takes time to develop a program. Be patient.

      1. Yes. 3-3 and unranked is better than what I saw last year. There is a positive energy to this team. They play hard and will learn how to finish and win. The foundation of the team is much better than last year and you can see it in their play. Offensive and defensive lines take time to develop. We are only a few players away from being a dominate team.

      2. Last year we had the future #1 NFL draft choice for the Chicago Bears as QB and he could evade the rush and create plays. This year we have Miller Moss who is immobile and can’t evade the rush and create plays. I don’t see that as an improvement.3 years in and the Lincoln Riley recruited OL is a disaster with no improvement in sight.

  7. First SC has to cross-country to Michigan, then 2-weeks later it is off to Minnesota, and then 2-weeks later it is Maryland. SC joined the Big-10 for the money and now they are paying the price
