USC-Washington Report Card

QUARTERBACK

It’s time to see what Jayden Maiava can do. But the QB whisperer hasn’t enhanced his reputation with the way he’s tried to shoehorn Miller Moss into his philosophy instead of trying a game plan that worked around Moss’s weaknesses.

Grade: D

RUNNING BACKS

Woody Marks is a pretty good running back if he just gets enough carries.

Grade: A-

WIDE RECEIVERS

Who has gotten better: Zacariah Branch. Ja’Kobi Lane. Duce Robinson. That’s another thing to hold the Smug Genius accountable for. And can I add I’m tired of receivers motioning for a first down after average catches like they just did something special.

Grade: C

OFFENSIVE LINE

Just because Washington wasn’t applying a strong pass rush doesn’t mean the line was doing a good job. They did better in the run game.

Grade: C+

DEFENSIVE LINE

They cannot put enough pressure on a QB and their defensive coordinator doesn’t give them enough help with blitz packages.

Grade: D+

LINEBACKERS

The great Dave Levy once told me a former USC player was “a great chase linebacker because he was always chasing behind the running back.” Sometimes that is how I feel watching USC.

Grade: C

DEFENSIVE BACKS

Has the secondary done anything against any team with a two-dimensional offense? They play soft coverage because D’Anton Lynn is worried about giving up big plays but they can’t stop even average passing attacks.

Grade: D+

SPECIAL TEAMS

Makai Lemon’s done a nice job on kick returns and Zacariah Branch had a 20-yard punt return. Amazing that I’m mentioning that as a highlight for Branch, who was supposed to be the nation’s most explosive player.

Grade: B-

COACHING

Lincoln Riley’s game plan against the best-rated pass defense in the Big Ten was to pass the ball 29 times in the first half. With a QB that apparently was on thin ice because he demoted him this week.

Grade: F

  2. The offensive line played well. Moss had all day to throw it and the running backs had holes. You can’t downgrade them just because the defense dropped back seven guys. That is not the lines fault. A- or B+.

    1. With as much time Moss had to throw, the receivers should have been able to either separate and get open or draw a Defensive Holding Penalty, or Moss using his legs and taking off. Problem is All of the Above.

  4. ‘Celeb’ was sacked 4 times and had numerous “hurries”. That transition from college to the pros is a big one, especially for quarterbacks

    1. Speaking of the Trump election NY attorney general Leticia James says in the above video that “we prepared for this result and are prepared to fight back.” That is an outrageous statement by a state AG. The American public elected a new President. It is not the AG’s job to “fight back.”

How do you locate and deport 25,000 or more Chinese soldiers; 452,000 convicted Venezuelan criminals including 13,000 rapists and 15,000 murderers; an unknown number of terrorists from the middle east; an unknown number of mentally ill people who were released from asylums; criminal gang members; drug dealers; ect. Thanks Biden, Harris and Mayorkas. How is the intentional importation of these people for political gain not considered a treasonous act?

        No problem, I can find $600 million this second. Just like the Dempcraps wanting to defund the police, Trump can defund Planned Parenthood. Stop the funding. he can say that is dsicrimination of money being spent due to 99.9999% goes toward women having abortions and there is no money being spent on men under Title 9. If i were president, that is the first thing I would do. Women want rights then they have the rights to be responsible for everything, including paying for their baby killing.

People are now less safe, and 20 million immigrants strains the housing market. Also, we are spending billions to house, feed, and educate the illegals and provide them with free health care. The price of gas and groceries that resulted from the 4 trillion ‘green deal” budget deficits and the attack on fossil fuels also affects every individual.

    2. We installed dementia, incompetence & weakness in the White House 4 years ago and the bad guys of the world took advantage of it. The people of Afghanistan, Ukraine, Israel and Gaza were GREATLY AFFECTED by that decision. Libs never care about lives that are lost unless it helps with their agenda OR it’s one of their loved ones who loses their life. But some of us do care. All lives matter!

  13. KAM As a lawyer I cannot imagine placing an exhibit into evidence showing how much money will be saved by either the Republicans or Democrats– it would be like Republicans can save each person $1000 per year versus the Democrats’ $500 advancement. That is not a winnable case
