USC Notes: The Predicted Defections Continue

Four-star offensive tackle Carde Smith is now being predicted by On3 to flip from USC to Colorado.

This has actually been rumored for weeks, so it’s no surprise, especially if Julian Lewis also flips to Colorado.

So USC would lose recruits from Georgia and Alabama if this is true. There will be more defections coming too.

This is the danger with Lincoln Riley’s strategy of concentrating so much of his recruiting on the South. It’s no accident he discovered Mater Dei on Friday.

  • Dana Holgorsen will call the plays this week for Nebraska against USC and serve as the offensive coordinator for the remainder of the season.
  • The USC-UCLA game will kick off at 7:30 p.m. PT at the Rose Bowl and be televised by NBC. I can imagine quite a few USC fans who bought tickets in the summer will pass on a cold, night kickoff.

I’m labeling the game the Empty Seats Bowl.

The game will be part of an NBC doubleheader that begins with Notre Dame-Army at Yankee Stadium.

  1. Even Colorado has been more successful than USC with a record of 7-2. It appears that coach Prime may relate to players more than Lincoln Riley. It’s not surprising players would rather play for Colorado.

  2. Riley is 17-13 versus top 25 teams, including those with Caleb, Jalen Hurts, and Baker Mayfield. He is 12-10 in last 2 years at USC. I suspect buying him out sooner may be more cost effective than letting Helton 2.0 continue.

  4. So Carde Smith made a commitment to Auburn and then USC and now Colorado in about a year. All of them were his “dream” schools. Sounds like Bear Alexander without the talent. Let him go.

  5. Excluding the glorious 9-year Pete Carroll era, USC has won only one conference championship since 1995. That covers 21 seasons. Since 1993, every Pac 12 conference school except Colorado won at least a shared title once. If it wasn’t for Pete, USC would soon be starting decade 4 of the same level of mediocrity as Arizona, Cal, and Oregon State. Lincoln Riley is not the person to fix this.

  6. Last year Oregon, YUCLA and ND were wipeouts for SC, so the team is doing better this Season. And since Wiley will be SC’s coach for another 2-3 years you would think Trojans would be supporting the guy
