USC Morning Buzz: Is Lincoln Riley Too Big To Fail?

Who wouldn’t love to see Lincoln Riley’s contract to see what kind of clause exists if NCAA rules are broken? Not that USC would do anything about it.

The way Riley rationalized the NCAA’s findings Tuesday was the same way he rationalizes his play-calling or decision-making in games.

“You see the level of penalties that were levied,” Riley said. “If it’s something serious, they’re going to suspend the head coach.”

There’s always an excuse. And a lack of accountability.

It’s not like the rules violated were significant when eight analysts were coaching at practices, which was against the rules. But it almost felt like the NCAA had a “too big to fail” philosophy when it said Riley was not “personally responsible” for what happens at practices.

“Protection,” said a Big Ten coach about the NCAA letting Riley off the hook.

Let’s remember when Mike Bohn got hired at USC, he told coaches he would fire anyone who breaks the rules.

Of course, it’s easy to say that and another thing to implement it, especially when the football coach is involved with his $90 million buyout.

Of course, fans wondered how a special teams analyst was breaking coaching rules given Riley’s sorry special teams the past 3 seasons? Don’t ask Riley. He won’t hire a respected special teams coach.

      1. That’s funny stuff!!

But the con job they pulled on the American public in 2020, when they covered up Joe’s dementia was perfectly fine! They helped Joe cheat his way to the White House by lying about the facts. MSM aren’t news outlets, they are propaganda machines, no different than the state run media in China, N Korea and Russia.

They tried to help Kamala cheat her way to the White House, too, but fortunately enough people refused to be fooled again!

      2. So Cal: There is a video on you tube entitled “what happened to the 15,000,000 Biden voters. ” It points out that in the 2008, 2012, 2016, and now 2024 Presidential elections the Democratic candidate received roughly 65 million votes. But Biden received 81 million in 2020. Those votes did not go to Trump in 2024. He picked up about 2 million more than in 2020. What happened to the 15 million Biden voters?

      4. Goober: You missed the point again. It is not that 2024 was an abnormally low vote total. The 2024 total was consistent with 3 out of the 4 previous election years. The outliner is 2020. Biden outperformed Obama by 15 million votes that year and Biden was much less popular than Obama.

  1. Scooter,

Soft Riley is not good for the enviornment for SC football. It is soft and the offense is horrible. Watching SC is like watching teeth being pulled. You can ask the toothless fake gabbby about having teeth pulled. Hicks like that like to be toothless.

  2. Republicans have vowed to cut federal funding to elite institutions of higher education like USC, increase taxes on university endowments like USC’s $7.7 billion endowment, reverse Biden-era Title IX policies practiced here at USC under Carol Folt, and deport pro-Hamas Mainstream Moderate Democrats who took over college campuses like USC last Spring. https://www.thecrimson.com/article/2024/11/8/what-trump-means-for-harvard/

    1. Trump stated the other day that he plans to dissolve the Department of Education. That will be difficult but he can at least slash the budget significantly. He appointed Elon Musk and Vivek Ramswamy as co-chairs of a new department of government efficiency with the goal of slashing two trillion of bureaucratic waste from the budget. Start with the useless Education Department.

I thought Gabby said a few days back that he was going to the USC marching band pep rally today at the Palms at 2:00 and wanted to “meet up” with Scott. Instead, he spent the day trolling the blog. Once again a threat followed by a no show. That’s our Cowardly Gabby. All talk, no walk.

Scenario 2: Pete & Riley to Chicago.

    1. Not going to happen NIL but I wish it did. Caleb is still holding the ball way too long. His numbers are terrible and he was benched for the remainder of the season. He just can’t seem to make a quick read and deliver the ball in under 3.0 seconds.
