My USC-Nebraska Reaction

Did USC turn a corner by needing to go down to the last play of the game to beat a team that had an awful QB?

Is Dylan Raiola hurt? I’ll go with that because otherwise the recruiting services have a lot of explaining to do. The Nebraska offense was woefully inept and the decision makes me wonder where Matt Ruhle got his reputation.

In any event, USC looked the same as it always does. Except for one thing. It was able to rely on Jayden Maiava’s legs for a few key plays. It made the difference against the Huskers but I wouldn’t say it’s enough to overcome the Trojans’ shortcomings if they played a decent, two-dimensional team.

The defense looked extremely soft in the second half, including ont the final drive. Once again, it couldn’t stop a team on fourth down on the last drive.

Once again, Woody Marks did all the heavy lifting.

Maiava looks like a turnover waiting to happen so you never know how a play will turn out. But he makes things interesting, to say the least. And the run-pass option is back.

Has Lincoln Riley learned anything? USC still can’t block properly on a field goal.

USC is 5-5. Exactly where it belongs.

Now can it beat UCLA?

      1. Blog is not the same without Maui Michael…he left I believe after the MN game. Hope he comes back, though it has been a while. Also many others left…

      1. I wonder if SC’s lawyers are looking over Rileys contract to see if they can get out of it after the sanctions or at the very least coming to him with a lesser buyout, we can only hope

    1. Has been calling it a joke for a year, yet visits it & posts daily! She makes lame excuses for that, too stupid to realize it makes her look even stupider.

Has to have absolutely no life to come here where she’s not wanted and find enjoyment in annoying people. She’s the BIGGEST LOSER EVER.

      Excuses and deflection in 3, 2, 1…

  1. UCLA is awful, but USC will make it close. Yes, maiava is a potential TO machine. If the football gods hadn’t been with USC today, he would have had 4 or 5 TOs, rather than the 2 he did have.

ND had five takeaways today versus Virginia. USC has a lot to fix in the next two weeks.

      1. 1967, Riley has one season left to prove he’s the one…one season. In addition Folt’s gone a year hence and good riddance to her.

I don’t believe that as off putting Riley is per ‘engagement’ etc., that this is what he’ll be remembered as. A lot of change is due overwhelmingly to NIL….no allegiance let alone control of a roster. The future of legacy programs is troubling at best unless they can convince skilled 2nd – 3rd stringers to ‘stay put’.

My sole hope is to depth charge the annual giggling debutant ‘the princess’ with their rigged schedule and no CCG for them. ‘blank em”’!

These next 2 games are what have made reputations of USC Trojan head football coaches as well as crushed them….I do believe Riley is realizing what’s at stake.. being seen as a ‘bust’ at 2 major legacy programs. Brian Kelly is in the same vice but I do think Riley is understanding the gravity of his situation.

  2. Wolf, you’re an idiot (as usual). The D only gave up 21 points. Should win every game only giving up 21. Go back to sleep, dopey.

I thought Gabby said a few days back that he was going to the USC marching band pep rally today at the Palms at 2:00 and wanted to “meet up” with Scott. Instead, he spent the day trolling the blog. Once again a threat followed by a no show. That’s our Cowardly Gabby. All talk, no walk.

      1. ucla is 121st in total offense. and is tied for 123rd for scoring offense at 19 points per game. This game should be a layup, but it probably won’t be.

ND, on the other hand, could be a rout.

  3. The SC players really celebrated this victory, it had been a long time since they felt this good.

And the New Kid quarterback showed some wheels’ but the throwing was much too erratic. “He’s got an arm and is a gun-slinger,” say his wideouts, so get used to it

  5. The Nebraska game was fun as all of SC’s games have been exciting this Season, win or lose. And Woody, a Trojan, has been a delight

-Seems this ‘Get rid of Wiley’ movement is picking up steam as explained by the L.A. Times guy writing that a “$60-million” buyout might be in the cards one day

  6. It was reported that there wasn’t much excitement in the SC crowd, a “luke warm” response to the game. Pesumbly that will not be the case in the Rose Bowl on Saturday

  7. USC hasn’t won a road game all year. Don’t see that changing Saturday. Various Internet pundits/speculators claim the NCAA Violations are enough to fire Riley for case avoiding the buyout. Even if true, problem is that Folt signed off on his contract and like a typical corporate schmuck will never admit she is wrong hiring him.
