USC Saturday Buzz: A Couple Things To Set Straight

I was sick of JuJu Lewis long before he decommitted from USC last weekend because I didn’t like the way he strung out his recruitment. It had nothing to do with his ability.

But I didn’t like the way this week some USC homers suddenly decided Husan Longstreet was always the better prospect. Oh really? Well, if that was true why didn’t Lincoln Riley start recruiting Longstreet before everyone else? He was in USC’s backyard, which made USC’s late entry even worse.

Longstreet had three interceptions and a fumble against Mater Dei on Friday night. Mater Dei is the No. 1 team in the nation. There’s no disgrace in having a rough night and it will have no bearing on his college career.

But boy did some of the fans go overboard this week.

  • The statement below is appalling and I’m ashamed any USC fan would act in this manner.

He missed most of the games during the 2020 season so his streak ended. If USC played a game and you did not attend, you cannot pretend the game did not take place.

Maybe fans were barred from attending but you cannot say you went to 400 straight games if you missed 5 or 6 games that were played and count in the record.

If USC won 30 straight games and lost a game, then won a game, can it say it has won 31 straight games because it chooses not to count a loss?

You either attended a game or you did not. No excuses.

This is also disgraces the memory of USC superfan Giles Pellerin, who actually attended 797 consecutive games. Does anyone think Pellerin would claim his streak if he missed 5 games?

    2. We were once a country that admired the men who built skyscrapers, expansion bridges, and the Hoover dam. Traveled on the Oregon trial. Completed the transcontinental railway and fought in world wars. We took pride in words such as “home of the brave and land of the free.” We now have role models such as Ron Reiner and Mark Hamil and men who need therapy following an election loss. God help us.
