Remembering Thanksgiving Tradition

Thanksgiving was often a great day to be at Howard Jones Field.

Because it was usually considered the last real practice of the regular season, the seniors would wear their high school jerseys. The rest of the team formed a tunnel at the end of practice for the seniors to walk through as they left the field.

The seniors would then speak to the media about how much it meant to wear the jersey and the significance of their last practice (of the regular season). Here is Hayes Pullard wearing his Crenshaw High School jersey in 2014.

Then the USC coach would talk to the media about his seniors.

So what happened today? Lincoln Riley did not allow any media to attend practice, so there was no video/pictures of the seniors. In fact, Riley canceled his media session because of the holiday, which meant he only spoke once this week.

Why does it matter? It provided a nice moment for the players to reflect on their careers and for fans to hear what it all means to the players.

  • The 1938 USC-UCLA game was played on Thanksgiving before 65,000 at the Coliseum. No. 14-ranked USC won, 42-7.

  1. If you can’t win at least respect the school traditions. We’d rather you did both but the traditions should be mandatory.

It’s time to part ways. LR is a poser. He should be coaching in some capacity in the NFL. His personality is not suitable for college level sports.
