USC-UCLA Report Card

QUARTERBACK

It was not a great day for Jayden Maiava but how much of that was the coach’s horrible playcalling?

Grade: D+

RUNNING BACKS

Woody Marks averaged only 4.2 yards per carry but he was still the best part of the offense (as usual).

Grade: C

WIDE RECEIVER

Makai Lemon caught a 64-yard pass and the offense still didn’t score a TD on the series. Zacariah Branch had another quiet night (2 catches, 13 yards) that would have been unthinkable back in August.

Grade: C

OFFENSIVE LINE

There is a segment of analysis that is repeating last year by saying the line is doing much better as the season progressed. Did you see how many times Maiava was running in circles in the backfield? And the Trojans averaged 3 yards a carry.

Grade: C-

DEFENSIVE LINE

This game was made to order because UCLA has one of the worst rushing attacks in the nation. Even with that, only 2 d-linemen (Gavin Meyer, Jamil Muhammad) were among the team’ top 10 tacklers for the game.

Grade: C+

LINEBACKERS

Mason Cobb and Easton Mascarenas-Arnold made a lot of tackles (13) feasting on the Bruins’ bang average offense.

Grade: B-

DEFENSIVE BACKS

Did anyone cover J. Michael Sturdivant (117 yards receiving)? It could have been worse if Ethan Garbers had a better first half.

Grade: C

SPECIAL TEAMS

Michael Lantz made four short field goals and Eddie Czaplicki was Eddie Czalpicki.

Grade: A-

COACHING

Lincoln Riley has some sort of disease that forces him to go with the most-messed up game plan possible in some games. He became Fade Route U. with a QB who likes to scramble in a game USC should have won comfortably. Probably thinks he is a genius for it.

Grade: F

SPIRIT GROUPS

There was a lot of uncharacteristic/off brand behavior from the song girls and drum major after the game.

Grade: F
