Busy Day For Coaching Transactions

UCLA fired offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy and is expected to hire Indiana QB coach Tino Sunseri.

I’m mentioning this because as far back as the season-opener against Hawaii I’d heard that Bieniemy’s playbook was way too big and a problem for the team.

It’s good for the rivalry that DeShaun Foster is not messing around. He has hired one-time USC assistant Demetrice Martin to coach the secondary and is expected to replace offensive line coach Juan Castillo.

Is Lincoln Riley going to hire the new linebackers coach or will he just pawn it off to D’Anton Lynn?

  1. The first thing Norm Chow did when he came to USC was to trash Paul Hackett’s L.A. County wide play book and simplify everything. And we all saw the results. Translation, these NFL Playbooks are ten pounds of crap in a five pound bag.

    1. I was going to make the same comment about Hackett, it was obvious to me even before Chow came. Remember the number of false start penalties his teams had? All due to the players thinking rather than reacting. But the biggest proof of this was in the 1980 Rose Bowl. That team with a historically great offensive line only had 10 points well into the 4th quarter until Robinson told Hackett (his OC on that team) to simply run White behind Munoz on the last drive.

      1. Hackett got this reputation as an offensive genius because he coached with Bill Walsh, and for some reason people bought into all of that despite his offenses being mediocre at best. Hackett tried to be cute in that game and show the midwesterners from Ohio State what West Coast football was all about, despite have an all world offensive line that could’ve pounded Ohio State into submission.

  2. Gundy may be on his way out at OSU. I doubt he’ll be unemployed long, if that’s the case. Heck, if Clay can get a job as quickly as he did!

Not to mention all the other countries who have been affected by our current incompetence & weakness. So many lives lost, both foreign and domestic. 😢

      1. Gabby,

With due respect, the answer is no, it is never old to pile on Riley. I am hoping that he gets a wiff of the complaining and does a self reflection and changes his approach to the game.

  5. Hasn’t this incessant piling on Wiley gotten old yet?– He’s here to stay, probably for 3 more years. The public’s cries for Helton’s firing went on for years and had no effect as SC stood pat

  12. High-profile coaches are probably good at handling criticism because they have had plenty of practice at it with each loss. I read where one coach said criticism of him was like 2 flies on a rhino’s back. In other words, he didn’t think much of it

Biden, Kamala and anyone else on their side can speculate about anything without having that qualification inserted. The ABC team, (Mary Bruce, Martha Raddatz, Jonathan Karl, David Manure) are notorious for doing that.
