Did you see the ESPN report that Oklahoma State wants Coach Mike Gundy to take a restructured contract and pay cut and have discussed firing him for cause if he doesn’t agree to the new contract?
Can USC do something similar with Lincoln Riley?
Would they even have the guts to try it if they could?
- USC women’s volleyball plays Texas this afternoon in the NCAA Tournament at Austin, Texas. A reader contacted me to say that USC did not contact any alumni in the Austin area to ask them to attend the match.
- Channel 9 did a short story this week on how USC is now fully gated and closed off to the public at all entrances.
This is going to be one of Carol Folt’s legacies. Maybe the new president will overrule this.
- Media criticism time: I found it interesting that some media were praising JuJu Watkins scoring 40 points in a 42-point rout over Cal Baptist (including 2 3-pointers in the fourth quarter) but were nowhere to be found during a less-than-stellar effort against Top 10-ranked Notre Dame.
- The USC band was stuck up high at the Rose Bowl for the UCLA game. But I’ve heard the Rose Bowl was willing to put the band in the end zone but band director Jacob Vogel never informed them he preferred to be seated lower.

SC’s turmoil will continue until they get a coac who is committed to SC, SC’s tradition, meets the boosters, goes and recruits in the southland, and get tough on the team.

There is no Art Goldstein. His name was Al Goldstein, prior to becoming Art Bartner.
Had a lot of respect for Art until he caved to Mora’s crying about stabbing the field. If they made good on not allowing us to perform at halftime, then we just should have paid them back by not allowing them to perform the following year at the Coliseum.

SC won’t be catching Texas any time soon. The Longhorns recruited five 5-Stars and fourteen 4-Stars. Stars matter; some teams win on talent alone

it’s all about the coaching. Hire one with a positive personality. Sell SoCal to recruits. Get recruits in the movies and on TV. USC football players used to be extras in movies.

ASU and BSU are both conference champions with 11 and 12 win seasons in their second year as head coaches. Riley is overpaid and overrated.
