A Moment Of USC Levity For Transfer Portal

When former USC coach John Robinson would tell stories, he would sometimes make references to a fictitious/unknown person as “Harry Hatchetass.”

Anyone who was around Robinson for any length of time probably heard this reference.

As a USC alum who knew Robinson told me this week, ““With Woody Marks injured and Quentin Joyner quitting, in the bowl game, Lincoln Riley is gonna have to give the ball to Harry Hatchetass on running plays!”

To take it further, with the transfer portal defections, USC might have Harry Hatchetass starting at wide receiver next season.

  1. On the rare occasions Riley chooses to run the ball (in this bowl game), just hand it off to some of our 300 pounders who aren’t getting much playing time.

  2. I played for John McKay and heard both he and John Robinson at several coaches clinics. Both of them were similar in they had a wry almost sarcastic way of describing football situations. They both were very popular speakers and the coaches could identify with many of their stories. When I was a member of the team, I never thought Coach McKay was that funny.

      1. no, I was on the 59 freshman team and was a reserve from 60-62. I coached at El Rancho HS from 65-68 and San Clemente HS from 68-2004.

  3. Bryan Jackson will start in the Las Vegas Bowl at RB. We have King Miller and Cian McKelvey behind him, and do not forget redshirt freshman A’Marion Peterson. But with LR, who are we kidding, there will be no running game.

  4. So from a receiving standpoint right now, we still have Makai Lemon and Ja’Kobi Lane at WR, so the cupboard isn’t completely bare. But it is interesting after Miller Moss entered the transfer portal, its been an avalanche headed for the exits.
