I constantly rail about USC’s lack of development under Lincoln Riley.
But let’s look at his best offensive players the past three seasons: Caleb Williams, Jordan Addison, Travis Dye, Marshawn Lloyd, Woody Marks.
You know what they have in common? You might say they were transfers.
But the correct answer is they were finished products. They didn’t require developing or even much coaching. They arrived as stars. Everyone other Williams spent only one season at USC.
Someone is going to say Riley developed Williams. Let’s remember he was the No. 1-ranked QB in the nation as a senior and a five-star prospect. Riley didn’t develop him. He played him.
- Do people realize that if you looked at the top 10 defensive backs on the USC’s most recent depth chart, all but four are leaving the program? And that includes Kamari Ramsey, who could declare for the NFL Draft, as one of the four coming back.
- It’s time to talk about USC wide receivers coach Dennis Simmons.
“Man, he was a linebacker in college,” said a Big 12 coach who faced him regularly when Riley and Simmons were at Oklahoma.
This is true. Simmons played outside linebacker at BYU (1993-96).
The development of the wide receivers at USC has been shocking the past 3 years.
- Andy Staples of On3 gets it.

Riley has taken Helton’s mess and made it an even bigger mess while being paid 10 million to fix it, think about that .

But since Wiley will undoubtedly be a Trojan for years more, is this piling on the Coach good for SC’s future?

Lincoln Riley is slowly getting exposed and becoming college football’s biggest joke of a coach. He appears to be a lazy recruiter and definitely not a leader of men. He can literally write a book on excuses.

He’s from the Mike Leach Coaching Weed. He’s another Kliff Kingsbury. He will always be employed no matter what happens in the future at USC. The NFL can’t resist QB Gurus. Watch Kliffy get another head coaching job after this year.

The advantage of the Portal over high school recruiting is that most of these Portal players have proven themselves at the college level

But the down side is they are mercenaries who come and go on the lure of easy money. They don’t even know the USC alma mater.

Baker Mayfield (Transfer from Texas Tech where he started), Kyler Murray (Transfer from Texas A&M where he started) and Jalen Hurts (Transfer from Alabama where he started) made Riley. Not Vice Versa.
