Remember, a year ago, there were USC fans who thought Will Howard made a mistake going to Ohio State instead of coming to Los Angeles.
And many of these people didn’t think he was better than Miller Moss.
Here’s what Lincoln Riley on March 18, 2024.
“After the bowl game, we backed off on an older quarterback transfer target,” Riley said.
People actually believed Riley at the time.
Let’s get this straight: Howard went to Ohio State because it is a better program. Riley made a huge push to get him and flew to Kansas to meet him.
If Riley backed off, he’s a fool. OK, maybe he did then (kidding).
Why wouldn’t Howard have gone to the better program? It was a no-brainer. Better offensive line. Better receivers. Not to mention the very real possibility of winning a national championship.
But Riley “backed off.”
- Ohio State had eight sacks against Oregon. USC had 21 sacks all season.
Will Howard at SC could have made a big difference in all those tight games

Seems the only great coach in football recently retired from Alabama. Otherwise the new coach can’t even make the Playoffs, Penn St’s can’t win the big ones, Sark is Sark, and the guy up North turns out to be a 34-0 fraud at halftime

It isn’t that DeBoer is not the level of Nick Sabin (he isn’t) it’s because of NIL. Sabin’s the best but he retired. He knew chaos is the name now. Clemson HC Swinney is completely flummoxed by this awful uncontrollable mess. As to the Monday (Thursday) morning quarterbacking per Franklin, Lanning Sarkisian et. al. They got their teams there.
Someone has to dictate what players can and cannot with NIL and fast

Always have rooted for the West Coast teams in the Rose Bowl but I was not sad to see the ‘once pompous Ducks waddling to a 34-0 deficit. No wonder Oregon once called themselves the ‘Webfoots in the way they kept chasing Buckeyes around all afternoon

Once pompous ? They’re pompous today and always will be

That was some wild yelling from the few Oregon faithful cordoned off in a ‘forgotten section of the Rose Bowl. The team had closed to 34-8 so the cheer may have been derisive

Why not simplify scoring. Every touchdown is 1-point and field goals 1/2 point. So in other words yesterday’s score was Ohio St 6 Oregon 3

So ND 7 USC 5?

When Oregon lost its best runner they only had a passing attack left, so the Buckeyes only had eyes for the quarterback

You have been trashing USC coaches for as long as I can remember. You even bashed Pete Carroll. I believe that you are a very insecure man, Wolf.

So, is what he said incorrect? Will Howard totally ended up spurning USC and going to a better-opportunity program that actually plays defense, has linemen that are efficient in protecting their QB, develops players and (as proven) can qualify for the CFB Playoff and compete for a national championship. That’s fact, and Howard passed on USC. Riley tried to spin it and lied about “backing off” on Howard, right after Riley flew to Kansas to convince Howard to come to USC and then the story broke that Howard would probably go to Ohio State. I remember that whole story really well as it developed about one year ago. So, what part of what Wolf wrote is incorrect? You yourself seem overly insecure about USC being criticized in any way, and you seem to have the inability to recognize problems within the program and call it out, in hopes that enough people calling it out and demanding changes will eventually cause changes, for the betterment of the program going forward. Witness all of those empty seats at Allegiant Stadium last week. That’s the result of fans and alums losing interest in a program and voting with their wallets by choosing to not go to games, buy merchandise or concessions. That’s the first (and really only) thing that ever seems to get the attention of U$C Admins…..loss of revenue. Riley will be fired (and USC eating his payout for years) by this time next year, after going 5-7 or 6-6 again in the regular season, and the USC Administration will finally do it, because it’s a business decision, in that loss of revenue will be worse than paying out on the remainder of a ten-year contract that was a ridiculously foolish contract in the first place. It will simply be a business decision to fire little lord Lincoln the arrogant. Ask yourself this: At the end of the regular season, Riley announced “No marquee portal QB will be sought, other than one (a backup type) for depth”. Then you see Maiva’s crappy play in the Vegas Bowl. Maiva will never be the solution. So, the questions are (a) what kind of an idiot (Riley) paints himself into a corner and announces USC won’t seek a better QB, and (b) do you think Longstreet will develop quickly enough to start as a true freshman and be the solution? Maiva is not the solution.

it’s crazy that Lincoln Riley, of all the usc coaches in the past 20 years, will be the first to not have his starter drafted

Ohio State outcoached Lanning and the Ducks. Every Oregon passing route was covered and the Ducks had no clue on how to stop the Bucs offense. Chip Kelly demonstrated how to effectively call a game. Maybe Riley can take a masterclass from him.

Yet nobody felt the restlessness (and wrath) of the Ohio State fans and football experts more than coach Ryan Day and his OC Chip Kelly after the 13-10 loss to Michigan, the Buckeyes’ fourth in a row in the rivalry. Chip Kelly’s offense only gained 252 total yards in that contest.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDsAxRVLrZ4

Don’t be a Sore Loserman, Chip Kelly was one of your greatest UCLA football head coaches ever, he was 3-3 against USC.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WMFGm4bfvaY

I don’t know if Kelly is lazy, I think it may be more that he is a very introverted guy who finds it difficult to recruit. He is a better fit for OC, perhaps the same is true for our guy, LR.

Plow,
Maybe Riley can take a begginers class first. He can’t manage a clock nor does he know how to call plays

USC is purportedly going after Gronowski, the quarterback from South Dakota State. He is a big athletic kid. Looks a bit like Howard. Maybe Riley learned something from last year’s recruitment.
