USC Adds Transfer QB

Sam Huard, a once promising prospect at the University of Washington, is transferring to USC.

Huard was at Utah last season but didn’t play because of injuries. He spent 2023 at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, where he completed 184 of 303 passes for 2,247 yards with 18 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

He is the nephew of USC QB coach Luke Huard.

THE BOTTOM LINE: This must be the QB that Lincoln Riley said he would add for depth purposes.

I find it all a little perplexing. Why not add a QB who can seriously challenge Jayden Maiava for the starting job? I think Maiava needs competition and didn’t sew up the job with his performances in the final four games.

And what’s up with Huard? He doesn’t care if he plays?

A perfect example of a guy who should have just stayed at Cal Poly SLO and played every snap or gone to a smaller school where he could play.

  1. Unless it was Quinn Ewers, you would criticize anyone USC would pick up. People leave if they don’t trust the coaches-like Pregnon. Husan would take off if he had to battle TWO upperclassmen for the starting spot.

  2. IMHO Maiava’s on field performance has sucked, my money is on Huard, or another, to be next year’s starter. 90% Maiava goes in portal over this

  3. Scooter,

Happy New Year. Boosters, alumni, and fans need to stop funding this joke called USC Football. I have talked to two former players and they do not care for Riley or his antics. One is Martin Chelsey, who played tight end back in the 80’s. He started. All Riley is doing is throwing mud up against the wall to see if it sticks. This is horrible. He has no plans nor does he know what he is doing.

    1. The unasked question is – is USC content with adding Huard or still wanting to get a QB of the caliber of Mark Gronowski?

  4. Maiava will not be the quarterback next year. Riley is trying to land Gronowski and if he is unsuccessful will go after someone else. Huard is solely for depth.
