USC Notes: Trojans Upset Illinois

Big win for USC as it upset No. 13-ranked Illinois, 82-72, today.

It was USC’s first win on the road over a ranked opponent since 2010.

In other words, Andy Enfield never did it.

Desmond Claude scored 31 points while Rashaun Agee had 13 points and rebounds.

  • Shahn Alston, a four-star Class of 2026 running back from Painesville, Ohio, committed to USC this morning at the Navy All-American Bowl. One interesting note is that Ohio State did not offer him a scholarship even though he is from Ohio and visited seven times.
  • Steve Sarkisian is a master at blowing big games but what was he thinking on 2nd-and-goal a the 1-yard line last night? I cannot believe teams (including USC) line up in the shotgun in these situations.

Get under center and snap and the ball and run a QB sneak or give it to the running back. I still remember Wisconsin trying the shotgun on 4th-and-1 against USC and getting stuffed.

These coaches think they are so smart but they are ridiculous.

  1. The RB commit did get offers from Penn St, Miami, Florida. He is a scatback type of guy, listed at 5’9″. 40 time seems to be 4.6, but it may be the case he hasn’t been timed in a while.

      1. Spending 20 years of your life spamming a USC blog and doxxing posters is a sign of insanity, Cowardly Gabby aka Charlie Bucket the UCLA Fan. You need to be involuntarily institutionalized for the rest of your waste of life.

I think either Helton or Graham Harrel said “that’s not what we do.”

  3. In regards to red zone- goal line play calling! Only John Mckay had the right solution these other offensive guru’s are fakes, and overpaid for designing plays that are effective only in flag football.

The Mckay way worked- Sam “Bam” Cunningham. Go straight or up and over the opponent. Woody Hayes had fits in the 73 Rose Bowl watching Sam score everytime he had the ball on the goal line, and the Ohio State defense knew the play was coming everytime. That play was unstoppable, and would still work today with a decent athlete if he can lead. Please also remember Ohio State had an All American Middle Linebacker by the name of Randy Gradishar.

RIP- Sam “Bam Cunningham”. One of the greatest USC athletes ever he had speed, size, power, strength, and could leap a forgotten asset with running backs. Sam, never received the recognition he deserved, and was the ultimate team player. USC should honor his family with a statute- there will never be another Sam “Bam” Cunningham.

Every defense has speed today- the best way to eliminate that is take the ball under center and go straight ahead and over or under the defensive line with physical football. This fancy stuff used today looks good, but does not work much of the time.
