USC Notes: This Transfer Still Smarts

Could it get much worse than Emmanuel Pregnon leaving USC and going to Oregon?

Here’s the thing: What are the three USC incoming freshmen offensive linemen getting in NIL and how did it compare to Pregnon? If it was anywhere close to Pregnon, that’s a terrible signal to the veteran.

At good schools, you try to always make sure a starter gets more than an incoming transfer/freshman at the same position. Obviously, there can be exceptions like at quarterback, but generally, you don’t want to alienate a proven performer.

You don’t want to lose a reliable lineman when you have a QB prone to mistake starting and a true freshman who might get playing time.

  • Mick Cronin lost to Tony Soprano University last night. Life in the Big Ten means no more trips to Pullman, Wash., Corvallis, Ore., or Stanford/Cal. There’s no way the coaches of the schools who moved into the Big Ten like this more than the Pac-12.

  1. Tony Soprano University? Didn’t know T went to college. Is it a JC on Staten Island. T would never qualify for Rutgers unless he met the DEI standards and he does not.

Agree that an incoming transfer or freshman should not make more than a returning starter. But how do you land an impactful transfer if the going rate is 1 million and he will only be the third best player on the line. Do you have 3 guys on the line making 1 million? You will quickly run out of money.

  2. Jeez Scott, All you ever did was cry about USC’s weak basketball schedules. Now you can drop your pants, pull out the Diddy lube & dig into some good matchups.

  3. To hell with Pregnon. Max Meier needs to be a Trojan. Riley needs more mentally tougher people than some delusional goof who wants to be pampered. I get it, get revenge and get paid but when times get tough, the Ducks fold. We need to support this young man getting into USC and playing defensive end. Not only will he represent the school and his area well but he’ll be affordable.

  4. If you do not want to be a Trojan then the hell with you. Worry about the guys who want to be at USC, and forget the ones who don’t.

  7. -Just how do you balance the payments to each of your players. It seems money jealousy will always be present as it is in the NFL as well

But these kids are making money for the first time in their lives and they want to keep that gravy-train coming, so they ‘put-out on the field with NFL hopes still alive
