Long-time NFL assistant Rob Ryan has been hired as linebackers coach and assistant head coach of the defense by USC.
Ryan is a good coach and the move was obviously made by defensive coordinator D’Anton Lynn, who worked with Ryan in 2016 with the Baltimore Ravens and 2021 with the Buffalo Bills.
Ryan has not coached college football since 1999, when he was defensive coordinator at Oklahoma State.
He has been defensive coordinator with the Raiders, Browns, Cowboys and Saints. Ryan spent the past three seasons as a senior defensive assistant with the Raiders.
Hopefully, he views this as more than a one-year job before going back to the NFL.

Rob Ryan is a big name. Maybe he can attract a big name portal transfer linebacker to USC. We could use one. Hopefully, he turns out to be a good talent evaluator and recruiter.

Great hire. 2 time super bowl winner. Raider/SC persoanilty, just win. i am hoping that he can recruit lbers like a Cushing, Banks, Del Rio, Richard Batman Woods, Both Matthews, Ricky Gray, Rossivich, and others that eat nails. It would be nice to get rid of Riley and make Lynn the head coach. Have Rob Ryan take over as the dc.
