Morning Buzz: Where Is USC In Way Too Early Top 25?

Now that Ohio State won the national championship, what about next season?

Well, On3 already has an early Top 25 for next season by Andy Staples and Ari Wasserman.

Where is USC? Bueller? Bueller?

USC didn’t even get into the “others receiving votes” category like Texas Tech, Iowa State, Missouri, Duke and Washington.

These guys are either going to look prescient or foolish with USC. Maybe it was influenced by the fact Staples recently won a bet with Wasserman that Lincoln Riley would not make the College Football Playoff in his first three seasons at USC.

  • USC cornerback DeCarlos Nicholson, who entered the transfer portal Sunday, had a change of heart (or improved NIL offer) and withdrew his name from the portal.
  • Remember the $150 a ticket USC track banquet last week?

What did they serve to eat? A small piece of chicken, rice and salad on the same plate from a buffet line. And no seconds.

Also, I heard Jen Cohen was not in attendance.

  1. No wonder football coaches wear out quicker than most of us. Wondering what went on last night in the mind of Ohio St’s maligned coach —

’31-7, I got this in the bag, finally they’ll stop saying I can’t win the big ones…Wait, wait, they scored and got the 2, now it’s 31-15…wait, they scored again and it’s now 31-23, they could tie us…..

Wow, my quarterback comes through and we can now run out the clock…But wait, we’re 8 1/2 point favorites. I could make some new friends with a field goal to cover

    1. Not only did the inauguration of President Donald Trump live up to my high expectations, it greatly exceeded them. I woke up yesterday filled with kid-on-Christmas-morning energy, as I suspect many of you did. Never mind that I didn’t sleep well, the nation was finally going to be rid of them.

    1. Trump answered answered more questions yesterday than Biden did during his entire term!! LOL!!

With Dementia Joe having said on several occasions that he would get into trouble if he took questions, it’s mind boggling anyone would be stupid enough to deny what a puppet dictator he was. Someone else was calling the shots the entire time. Amazing that we had THAT many people stupid enough to vote for that.

      3. does anyone notice how “not bright” she is? That word salad doesn’t make sense. She says that on Jan 20 her husband will be sleeping with the next president. And that was said 2 days prior to the election. I realize everyone is making fun of her for being arrogant. But her phraseology is all wrong which makes a former DA, AG, VP look dumb as a bag of hammers. She should have said either “tonight your are sleeping with the next president” or “on Jan 20th you will be sleeping with the president”. I know it sounds knit picky but actually accomplished intellectual people deduce how to say things when they say it. She actually typed that and had time to check it for grammar, flow and cohesion and still botched it. Now if she actually meant what she typed then she is assuming that the public will vote her in in ‘28 (couldn’t happen) but the dems would never let her run again cause they don’t think she’ll ever win.

I thought Gabby said a few days back that he was going to the USC marching band pep rally today at the Palms at 2:00 and wanted to “meet up” with Scott. Instead, he spent the day trolling the blog. Once again a threat followed by a no show. That’s our Cowardly Gabby. All talk, no walk.

  7. Admittedly USC has had two disappointing seasons but the ON3 poll makes you wonder if someone has a personal issue with us. Below Texas Tech and Duke. C’mon. And how does Auburn rate #11 when they haven’t had a good program for years. So they landed some portal transfers, that doesn’t make a team.

  8. The Final-12 Tournament was undoubtedly a commercial success, but it might require some tweaking, for example, giving Boise St and Arizona St byes in that field was inappropriate, and teams 9-12 were not needed as they were predictably crushed

    1. Pasadena, I hope you are wrong, but I agree with you. The O-line next year may be even worse than under Helton. I see Maiava as inconsistent, with his best plays not bailing out his mistakes. RBs will not be as good as last year. Lemon and Lane are very good WRs, but Maiava will be under constant pressure. The D might be better, special teams probably not, as Eddie the Punter will be gone.

      1. The key word is “maybe.” The young offensive line played well in Vegas and may surprise us. Maiava has raw talent and if the game slows down for him and he improves his decision making he can be good. And I like our running backs. Jackson is the second coming of Lendale White.

  10. USC needs a billionaire benefactor like Oregan has to buy the players they need in this new NIL world. When in history did Oregon recruit every year in the top 3? Who can out bid Uncle Phil Knight?

    Liked by 1 person

    1. SC donors won’t give money to the NIL because they don’t know Riley and he doesn’t know them and they don’t like his coaching.

SC needs to eat the contract and hire someone who EMBRACES physical football, is willing to recruit So Cal and isn’t socially inept. There is a guy currently on campus who fits the description. Sadly, it ain’t gonna happen.

    2. so Ken… you actually would take Lincoln Riley over Dan Lanning? Flip flop the nil money and Lanning will beat Riley every time. Flip flop rosters and I’d say the same. Phiscal football and good game management, and players belief in their coach will beat “run to green grass air raid, no defense, idiotic clock/game mgt every time. Tell me Ken, do you honestly think LR is the man? He’s never ever built a program. He’s taken 1 and declined it and another ooor one and stayed statues quo.
