USC General Manager Putting Stamp On Program

USC general manager Chad Bowden has hired Max Stienecker to be executive director of player personnel.

Steinecker was the general manager at Wisconsin and was at Cincinnati, where Bowden also worked.

Here’s the news: Bowden has now hired three people and removed one person and Lincoln Riley is basically an outsider on these moves. I’m going to write about something important tomorrow but Bowden’s got a lot of power right now.

It’s not so much who he hires but that he is the one doing the hiring.

And don’t think people who work in the football program don’t notice it.

    1. If next year is a dumpster fire, then maybe, just maybe, LR will be willing to negotiate a sensible buyout. At that point, the pressure and discomfort will be huge, and he will be wealthy enough that the additional $$$ may not justify staying on within a pressure cooker.

      1. 67, you’re spot on, this all about making Riley uncomfortable. Make him attend functions, recruit California, etc, he’ll either adapt ( unlikely ) or want out, lets hope it’s the latter.

  2. I think Bowden, as the GM, decides NIL distributions to players. He negotiates with player agents. If this is correct, Riley is giving up some power but why else would you have a GM.

    Does Bowden have the power to fire and hire the head coach with permission from Jen Taco Lita Cohen? Or will she hire and fire the head coach?

    Will the GM do the talking for the absent AD or will she do her own talking?

    How much say does Bowden have in recruiting players? What about his assistants?

    How does this count against the number of coaches that can be on the staff?

    This just seems more expense just to cover Riley’s failure. The only return on the money being spent is winning the National Championship. The oline is very average until proven otherwise.

    Who is paying for the extra administration is SC is in the hole with a deficit?
