USC Notes: The Friday Column Supplement

In Friday’s column, I wrote about some of the starters for USC in its game against Minnesota in 1953.

Here’s a couple stars who were not listed in that starting lineup but key players.

  • Des Koch is the best punter in USC history, despite what you might read. He led the nation in punting his junior and senior seasons. The best punter in the nation two straight years. In the 1955 Rose Bowl, he averaged 52.7 yards per punt.

If that wasn’t enough, he won a bronze medal in the discus at the 1956 Olympics and was NCAA champion in the discus in 1955. He was also a member of three NCAA track championship teams (1952, 1954, 1955).

  • Lindon Crow played in the 1953 and 1955 Rose Bowls for the Trojans and was also in the 1955 Senior Bowl and College All-Star Game. He was the captain of the 1954 team and a second-round pick by the Chicago Cardinals, where he played from 1955-57. He also played for the New York Giants (1958-60) and L.A. Rams (1961-64).

But this is where Crow really made his mark: He intercepted a Johnny Unitas pass in the 1958 NFL Championship Game between the Giants and Baltimore Colts, which has become known as the “Greatest Game Ever Played” and a turning point in making pro football the colossus that it is today.

Locally, some might remember Crow as football coach at St. Genevieve High School.

  1. I remember reading some time ago that Lindon Crow played the entire game vs. Cal, had a pick as well as 2 or 3 TD that day.

    2. Another lie from Cowardly Gabby. When Trump left office in 2020 we had oil independence and our reserves were at one of the highest levels in history. Biden and his globalists shut down drilling permits, cancelled the Keystone pipeline, declared a war on fossil fuels, entered into the Paris climate agreement, and stated that the U.S. would not allow gasoline engines after 2035. He then tapped the oil reserves when gasoline prices in California exceeded $6.00 a gallon. What’s next Gabby? The border was secure under Biden/Harris.

    1. We are 38 trillion dollars in debt. Interest on the debt is now the highest line item in the budget. Debt is the primary reason civilizations collapse. Musk has already found billions of dollars in waste and his audit is just beginning. Instead of cheering him on, 12 attorneys general in blue states including Letitia James have filed lawsuits to stop him. Really makes you think that Trump was spot on when he said “these people hate our country and want to destroy it.” How can any person be opposed to a program that is eliminating waste and fraud.

      KAM: They get billions and billions of dollars, and they use that money to then infiltrate corporate America, to then infiltrate the public sector, to then resettle, for example, at taxpayer expense, millions of illegal aliens into this country to drive racist equity policies to drive radical left gender policies. And so what we’ve learned is that the left’s this mammoth left wing power structure plus left wing media…and I wouldn’t have come close to beating you without it.

The world is still paying the price for them having done that in 2020. The Village Idiot/Blog Pehdo/Skunk at the Picnic/Coward, etc. is actually stupid enough to say “Dementia’s not in office anyone”, as if the consequences for that mistake ended the day Trump took office.
