A memorial service was held Wednesday for former USC coach John Robinson.
Among those who attended: Ronnie Lott, Anthony Munoz, Brad Budde, Keyshawn Johnson, Eric Dickerson, Paul Hackett, Norv Turner and Ron Orr.
Marcus Allen, Ed Orgeron, Jackie Slater and Paul McDonald were speakers.
Traveler and the USC band were also there.

- USC defensive lineman Solomon Tuliaupupu has entered the transfer portal. That means he will have an 8th year of eligibility. He enrolled at USC in 2018.
- USC players Woody Marks, Jonah Monheim and Jaylin Smith were selected for the NFL combine.
Was LR there? Did he speak?

LR doesn’t know who John Robinson was….The USC football team under Robinson from 1976-1982 was a juggernaut, only stopped when a stupid track athlete named Billy Mullins signed up for 4 classes at 4 different colleges at the same time and attracted the attention of the NCAA who zeroed in on our football program.https://vault.si.com/vault/1980/03/31/scorecard

Billy Mullins’ daughter – Troy – is a long-drive golf professional. Her ball speed is about the same as male PGA (not long drive) pros:

–One of the speakers for Coach was Paul McDonald, somewhat forgotten but the quarterback for the 1978 National Champions and an All-American in 1979 when SC missed out on another Championship by a tie with Stanford

Gabby,
Thank you. If us regulars had gone, they could have charged a $100 for a seat and people would have paid. He and Maddon hopefully are hanging out with each other in heaven.

SC was at it’s greatest as an institution and as a football power back then. So many great memories. JR represented SC like no other, always charming and eloquent with the media and alumni.

This ’76 vintage was another great JR team, remember Bruin star running back Theotis Brown fumbling the ball into the air on a hit by Rod Martin and Dennis Thurman catching the fumble in midstride and running for a touchdown to crush Bruin hopes of #1!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCNz3DBg5qw

im Murray, the incomparable sports columnist, said of Coach Robinson– Football coachs tend to be cunning and scheming in character, “but Robinson was like a country doctor healing the sick in exchange for fresh eggs”

Murray was one of the greats. The LA Times today is a far cry from what it once was.

Murray would not pile on in criticizing a struggling player or coach, but would instead playfully tease them

This doesn’t fit the narrative of those who are down on Wiley, but last November at Robinson’s death Wiles had this to say– “One of the greatest things at our university and our football program is having all of the greats that have come before– the coaches, the players and everyone that has made this place special”
