USC Morning Buzz: Does The Fan Matter?

Does the USC fan ever matter?

It was announced yesterday that USC would play South Carolina in women’s basketball at Crypto Arena on Nov. 15. A great matchup.

But . . . Nov. 15 also happens to be Homecoming at USC as the Trojans host Iowa.

This is hardly ideal for diehard USC fans. They couldn’t have played the basketball game on Friday night or Sunday? Maybe TV doesn’t want to.

This is where having Homecoming so late in the season becomes an issue. It’s the one game of the year when a lot of fans visit the campus. It’s not going to be logical to expect people to go from the basketball game to the campus afterward. Just try getting a parking spot if you come late to the football game.

We already had an example of how these “doubleheaders” hurt women’s basketball, when the Trojans hosted Notre Dame on Nov. 23 at the Galen Center, the same day as the USC-UCLA football game at the Rose Bowl.

The game drew 7,894 and a lot of people had hoped it would be a sell out.

And what happens if for TV purposes, the football and basketball games are at the same time?

  1. Rich Big-10 tv contracts broke up the Pac-12. Now when ‘tv’ tells you to jump, you ask “How high?”

    1. KAM: Once USC President Carol Folt sold out to the networks there is no going back. All tradition takes a back seat to network pinheads and their search for ratings.

DON: Leaving the Pac 12 was the worst decision in the history of the university. Now the network puppet masters make USC dance like a marionette.

      1. The true worst decision was bring Folt here in the first place…. and bringing back Wanda Austin as an interim ranks right up there too….

      2. I disagree. I find the repeated use of the word “freak” extremely witty ….[especially when it’s stretched out in capital letters] …

  2. KAM: The Democrats said climate change was so important that they should be able to: a) Rip out all your gas appliances b) Ban your gas vehicle c) Tax you into oblivion for it. Now they are torching Teslas.

DON: It was never about the climate. It was about controlling you.
