If It’s Friday, It’s Time For A USC Notes Column

I don’t like to focus on the officiating in games but there were a couple extremely dubious calls at the end of the USC-Purdue game that hurt the Trojans.

You can view the fouls on USC here and here.

“It doesn’t do me any good to sit up here and get fined or whatever. The game is reviewable for anybody that wants to,” USC coach Eric Musselman said.

  • USC will continue to be the most expensive school in the United States after it raised tuition by $3,356 for next year. The cost of a full year of tuition, average rent and standard meal plan for students living in on-campus freshman housing is estimated at $99,139 for the 2025-2026 school year, according to the USC Financial Aid website.

Tuition alone will cost $73,260.

  • Jazzy Davidson, who has signed with USC, has been named as one of the three finalists for the Gatorade National Girls’ Basketball Player of the Year.

The 6-1 guard from Clackamas High School in Oregon was recently named Gatorade Player of the Year for Oregon for her fourth time.

  • And now for some history:

GLORY DAYS

  • USC safety Ronnie Lott (42), cornerback Larry Braziel (47) and safety Dennis Smith (49) in the 1979 Rose Bowl.
  • Here is Lott playing for the USC basketball team circa 1980.
  • And here is more Glory Days: The USC band in its classic uniforms in 1976 entering the Coliseum.
  • Speaking of USC in the 1960’s, Mike Hull, a USC fullback who played from 1965-67, dated actress Sally Field.

One time, USC was on its way to the Beef Bowl as part of Rose Bowl festivities, and the team buses passed a billboard for the TV show, “The Flying Nun,” which starred Field. Hull never heard the end of it from his teammates in the bus.

  • It’s my continuing series of beautiful USC basketball uniforms from the 1970’s/early 1980’s. USC forwards Cliff Robinson (44) and Paul Henderson (34) at the Pit in Oregon in 1978. The Oregon player is Dan Hartshorne.

    1. Dennis Smith wasn’t chopped liver either. Was an All Pro playing for Denver and one of the hardest hitters in the league. Amazing that two all time greats played in the same defensive backfield in college.

    1. Yes muscular body. Not much of an offensive basketball player but he was quick and aggressive and could play defense. Lott got all of the long rebounds and loose balls.

Yesterday Gabby admitted that he had no intention of appearing for a boxing match. “Nobody fights over what is said on a blog.” He was incredulous that anyone should ask for an apology. (Posting fraudulently as steveg) In Gabby’s world, men are not the protectors and providers for their families. You can insult their wives, daughters, and mothers with impunity. He has has no code of honor and therefore believes that nobody else should live by one. Although he admits that he will not back up his words with a boxing match, he has now dishonesty posted at least 10 times the exact same response about how he showed up at the gym in Miami. Is this suppose to be amusing? Please stop ruining our blog with repetitive copy and paste posts.

      2. The data shows that ideology, race and gender are all statistically significant predictors of self-reported mental health, with liberals like Cowardly Gabbyhaving the worst self-reported mental health compared to moderates and conservatives, and women like Cowardly Gabby having worse self-reported mental health than men. What’s more, the interaction between race, ideology, and gender is statistically significant — with liberal white and non-white women having the worst self-reported mental health. This trend has also been reported by Zach Goldberg and Haidt using Pew Research’s data, as well as findings from Gimbrone et al. Using FIRE’s 2024 Campus Free Speech Rankings data, we’ve seen that 36% of students reported feelings of poor mental health more than half the time. Out of these 15,000 students, 67% were liberal, compared to just 16% moderate and 17.3% conservative. To put it simply, the more students were likely to believe in “social justice fundamentalism”, the more miserable like Cowardly Gabby they tended to be.

  1. Nondescript Sally Field was a classmate of mine from 7th to 12th grade at Birmingham High School. We had a nodding acquaintance, and I ran into her years later where she mentioned she had a tv series going. I clumsily told her I had never seen the show. Never ran into her again

Wow, went to school with Sally Field, are a lawyer, wife is a psychologist, didn’t you play football at SC ?

I guess Terry Gilliam and Bobby Sherman were ahead of you in school ? You didn’t know Michael Ovitz ? Karen Valentine ? Cindy Williams ? Leland Sklar ? Michael Richards ?

    1. Not the same Willard Scott. The goofy weatherman was from northern Virginia. He was a client of my oldest sister’s, a CPA in Alexandria, VA.

      1. TV weather guy Willard Scott and USC’s Willard (Bubba) Scott might have been close to the same weight, though it would have been distributed differently.

  4. $100,000 per year for room and board. What a scam. No way USC can’t offer a great education for less than half this amount. People routinely complain about oil companies colluding to keep gas prices high but I think education is likely a bigger rip off. 90% of the population is priced out of a college education at the major universities.

It is a fairly common (and can be severe) mental illness: about 0.32% of the population suffers from it. [Let’s see. There were 331 million Americans in the 2020 Census. I don’t believe they diagnose it (for sure) until one’s late teenage years, so let’s apply it to those Americans and Traitors like Cowardly Gabby 18 and over. Google says that 258 million Americans are 18 years old & older: 258 million x 0.0032 = 825,600 people adults who suffer from paranoid schizophrenia, just like Cowardly Gabby.
