When Will USC Get Respect Of Ohio State, Michigan Or Penn State?

If I had to guess on which USC home game gets moved to Friday night, I would say the Michigan State game is a prime candidate.

But that reminds me of something: Is USC ever going to attain the status of Michigan, Ohio State or Penn State, who do not host Friday night games? Even Iowa has an allowance to only host Friday games on Labor Day or Black Friday because there is a hospital across the street from its football stadium.

USC? It’s regularly hosted midweek games despite being in Los Angeles.

Why is USC different? Mainly because it doesn’t push back. You could argue it has to accept Friday night games because it just joined the Big Ten. But it was taking Friday night games in the Pac-12, where it should have wielded the most power.

So at the end of the day, USC seems likely to keep hosting Friday night games. And it will pretend 63,000 are at the game, like when Rutgers played the Trojans on a Friday night last season.

  10. It appeared that Michigan was pretty excited last year in beating SC which improved its lifetime record to 2-6 against the Trojans

    SC once beat Ohio St 7 straight times, and Penn St has a losing record versus the Trojans

    College football runs in streaks. Even the great Alabama has had decades where it did not perform well

      1. So Cal: I am generally overly optimistic about USC football. Its more fun that way. If Maiava becomes a better decision maker, we could have a very good team who can beat anyone on any given Saturday. 9-3 is just what I think is necessary to maintain momentum and keep the recruiting class together. I think we can beat Michigan and ND. We were ahead in the fourth quarter last year. Admittedly, Oregon may be a stretch.

    1. I don’t know, John. I do know that the medical problems he described to me in his last phone call were serious. I keep hoping he’ll call and say the new treatment regimen he started worked….but…. I guess it’s time for me to get up my nerve and call his number [hoping for the best…but fearing the worst].

      Over the last 2 years I’ve lost a lot of what I guess I could call ‘telephone friends’ and I truly hate calling and hearing (1) that the phone number is no longer in service or (2) the voice of one of their relatives giving me the bad news.
