Morning Buzz: USC Or San Diego State About To Be Proven Right/Wrong

USC took a commitment yesterday from offensive tackle Chase Deniz of Cathedral Catholic in San Diego.

He didn’t even have any stars yet from Rivals and his only offers were from Sacramento State, Nevada and Fresno State before USC offered him Wednesday.

Of course, Rivals suddenly awarded him three stars AFTER the commitment.

Was this Chad Bowden’s decision or did Lincoln Riley play a part?

The interesting background note is that Deniz’s mother is former UCLA softball star Stacy Nuveman, who is now the softball coach at San Diego State.

So why didn’t San Diego State offer? This could turn out embarrassing for Aztecs coach Sean Lewis (or USC). Can you imagine Nuveman not telling the football coaches about her son?

  3. The NCAA recently eliminated the restrictions on scholarship offers and roster sizes. Consequently, football teams are no longer limited to 85 roster spots for games. I suspect that the Deniz offer is a result of this rule change. The kid is big and athletic. He moves well for his size. Why not offer him if there are no restrictions. He reminds me of Tobias Raymond. He may be a good player in a few years.

      1. I think we are going to have a huge class 67. Schrader from On3 predicts 37 players. Offensive line is a difficult position to project from high school to college. We may have 7 in the class. A few years ago, Helton had a 5 person O line class and the only one who made it to their junior year was Monheim. The others transferred out.

  4. Lots [& lots] of criticism online over Gottlieb’s decision to put a certain star player back into a rout when she was suffering an ankle injury. Coaches and fans are pointing out the effect an ankle injury has on a player’s style of play…and the pressure it inevitably puts on the player’s other leg [in spite of what Kathy sez]…….

    1. It sounds like Gazoo, who wasn’t really a bad guy. The only thing they have in common is the way Gazoo called Fred & Barney dum-dums. Kathy spends her days finding enjoyment in calling everyone else that, because she is a loser and has nothing better to do.

      Kathy is more like Marvin, who wanted to destroy the earth…truly evil.

      1. All scholarly comments, So Cal. When we try to visualize Kathy there’s one other candidate we might want to consider, though. He’s not from outer space…. but I don’t think that should be dispositive anymore. He’s the little chubby German guy in Indiana Jones and the Lost Ark ….who’s always showing up to torture people and say weird stuff …and doesn’t check out of the film until he sees the faces of ancient Israelites and has his head melt….

    1. Crockett is fortunate that Donalds is a gentlemen. If a man would have utter those words, he would be inviting an a s s whooping. How does one congressmen get away with saying this to another. Crockett should be immediately censured and/or removed from serving on any committees. And why do the people of Austin, Texas put up with this nonsense.

    DON: They were completely oblivious to the fact that Kamala Harris was the “Border Czar” who completely ignored the border and purposely allowed the greatest flood of illegal immigrants into the country in history.

    They are not the brightest group.

  11. Well, I called it. Let our tickets go after 2021 and didn’t hear a peep out of the ticket office since then. I said a during the 2023 season that they would soon be losing the bandwagon fans that jumped on when they hired Riley and come begging long time season tickets holders they had alienated to come back! What did I get about an hour ago? The first email since we let our tickets go:
