USC Morning Buzz: Flurry Of Football/Basketball Additions

It feels like I’ve heard this song before.

USC added a three-star lineman in football and a basketball transfer who won’t transform the program.

Jake Johnson, a defensive tackle from Prosper, Texas, committed today. He was offered by Baylor, Kansas, Northwestern and SMU.

Lincoln Riley will be happy because Johnson is the third commitment from Texas for the Class of 2026.

And Georgetown center Drew Fielder (6-11, 235) committed. He averaged 7.1 points and 5.4 rebounds. He shot 46 percent from the field and 25 percent on threes.

Excited? I mean, it’s a year later, so Eric Musselman should not need bodies to fill out a roster. He should be able to land impact players. Maybe he is. We will see.

  2. Don’t understand why USC basketball can’t draw more talent. The local high school appear to have good players. Why are we relying on transfers from places like CSUN who had averaged 12 points a game? If we can attract a 5 star like Arenas, why can’t we attract a few 4 stars.

    1. I don’t understand how even our women’s program has won national titles but our mens basketball program is 0-134 years… how did we not at least win a NC back in 1906 when only a few colleges were playing basketball and Westwood was a garbage dump?

  3. 6’10” center Drew Fielder was the #16 ranked center coming out of high school and a four star recruit. PF Jacob Cofie was a four star recruit and 19th ranked power forward, he’s also 6’10”.

    SC is going to get 4 star edge rusher Shaun Scott from Mater Dei, they are working on 4 star OL Kodi Greene from Mater Dei that’s committed to Oregon, 4 star WR Kayden Dixon Wyatt from Mater Dei and tight end 4 star Marc Bowman from Mater Dei. SC is also looking good for 4 star CB Havon Finney from Sierra Canyon and has a real shot at 5 star OL Kennyi Pepe from Bradenton Fl.

    Last year Wolf posted a graphic of all the Mater Dei kids who went elsewhere, not a one went to USC, you WILL NOT see the graphic this year that shows most of them going to USC.

    And what will Wolf whine about if SC’s 2026 recruiting class just blows away the rest of the country ? That they didn’t get more 5 stars ? That it wasn’t Riley doing the recruiting ? That now Riley has to actually produce ? He’ll find sometime to whine about, no matter how trivial it is.

      If Scooter was not complaining, then something would be wrong. He is usually correct about things that he comlains about. Also, it would not be the same without him complaining. I enjoy. It keeps up the realistic epxpectations for the teams.

    Speaking of complaining, SC swept ohio st in baseball and took 2 out of 3 from Indiana last weekend. They go to Penn St. this weekend. I think they are 9-6 in conference. And you have not mentioned anything about them.
