It’s Whirlwind Wednesday For Transfers

UCLA has landed Nico Iamaleava, according to reports.

The good news is this saga is apparently over . . . for now.

Maybe Tennessee should call Joey Aguilar, the quarterback who is currently No. 1 at UCLA after transferring from Appalachian State.

  • More than 1,000 college football players have entered the transfer portal today. Cal has had five running backs enter the portal in the past 48 hours.

Does the average fan enjoy this stuff? It’s harder and harder to just keep track of who is on the team these days.

  • Basketball player Elzie Harrington, who decommitted from USC last week, has committed to San Diego State.

DON: They were also taking $50 million money from this program and using it to fund these NGOs, these third party groups who were supposed to be impartial. Those groups were then tagging — They were literally tagging and labeling voices in American politics. American taxpayers through the State Department were paying groups to attack Americans and to try to silence the voice of Americans. Democrats are authoritarians.

  2. KAM: Lots coming today from Judge Boasberg’s opinion after I have a chance to review it in detail. One clear issue I see coming; Yes, there is much SCOTUS case law about litigants being required to comply with Court orders — even if erroneous — until they are reversed. NONE of that case law deals with a contest between two branches of the federal government where the Exec. has been dragged into Court without jurisdiction, the court does not appropriately establish that it has jurisdiction, and the court then issues an unlawful order directing the Executive branch to act in a particular manner.

DON: SCOTUS is going to need to defuse this bomb that Judge Boasberg has started the timer on.

  4. I could care less where a player chooses to go to school to play. It’s there right to pick their school, athlete or not.

What I am annoyed with is when these players start making a huff mid – season about their NIL deal. The rumor on Iamalaeva is that he wanted to negotiate his NIL for more $,$$$,$$$.00 when the Vols made the CFP. Not cool to do that to your team in the middle of a CFP run.

    1. In a blistering opinion, Justice Brett Kavanaugh said 4 years ago that the sports traditions near and dear to alumni and others “cannot justify the NCAA’s decision to build a massive money-raising enterprise on the backs of student athletes who are not fairly compensated. Nowhere else in America can businesses get away with agreeing not to pay their workers a fair market rate,” he said, adding: “The NCAA is not above the law.” So now any athlete can negotiate payments at any time, even on the eve of a big game.

Cowardly Gabby embarrasses himself with every post. But why does he do it. Here is an excerpt from a recent abstract on why narcissistic personalities engage in antisocial behavior. It could be one of two reasons or both.

“Narcissists seem to disregard social-etiquette norms. For example, narcissists are more likely to brag (Buss & Chiodo, 1991), behave aggressively toward others (Barry et al., 2006, Bushman and Baumeister, 1998, Stucke and Sporer, 2002, Twenge and Campbell, 2003), and use offensive language (DeWall et al., 2011, Holtzman et al., 2010). Although it is well-known that narcissists are prone to break social-etiquette norms, the underlying causes for this tendency remain largely unclear. One possibility is that narcissists break social-etiquette norms as a means of grabbing people’s attention (the “attention-seeking” hypothesis; Buss and Chiodo, 1991, DeWall et al., 2011). An additional possibility is that narcissists, for various reasons, simply perceive such norm violations as less offensive than non-narcissists (the “insensitivity” hypothesis; Collins & Stukas, 2008)

      1. You need professional help, Cowardly Gabby. Maybe you can get in on the counselling with your fellow Sore Loserman Democrats: As reported by Punchbowl News, Jamie Raskin, the House Judiciary Committee Ranking Democrat Member, has enlisted psychologists to help Democrats on the panel cope with President Donald Trump’s first week in office. If the recruitment of psychologists by a House Democrat leader doesn’t convince skeptics that TDS is real, I’m not sure what would.

The purpose of the session, according to multiple attendees, was to counsel Democrats about how to approach conflict and effectively combat what Raskin described as “authoritarian styles of speech.” Another attendee said Judiciary Democrats were also advised to avoid devolving into partisan mud-slinging — a more common hallmark of the House Oversight Committee, which Raskin previously led as the top Democrat.

During a retreat last week for Judiciary Democrats, Raskin — the new ranking member of the key panel — hosted Jim Coan, a University of Virginia professor of psychology, and Hal Movius, a consultant who specializes in “negotiation,” “influence,” “emotion regulation,” “leadership” and “organizational development.” Coan’s “recent work emphasizes the neural systems supporting social forms of emotion regulation,” according to his bio with UVa. The retreat was held at the Library of Congress.

  8. KAM: Federal Judge Rules Google Operated Illegal Advertising Monopoly—Finds Company Violated Sherman Act

DON: The court’s 115-page opinion meticulously laid out how Google used its control over multiple layers of the ad tech stack to choke off competitors and steer business toward its own services—including Google AdX and DFP, now forcibly integrated as part of its Google Ad Manager product.

“Google further entrenched its monopoly power by imposing anticompetitive policies on its customers and eliminating desirable product features,” US District Judge Leonie Brinkema wrote in the ruling.

  9. Why would any program rely on Nico (I’magonnaleaveya) to lead their team. He has made it clear that he will bail at any time if the money is not right. My guess is that he will get an earache before the USC game and threaten to sit out unless his contract gets re-negotiated. UCLA must be truly desperate to want this guy.

      2. My problem with Jayden: He’s not smart enough to play QB. Every player at USC is told to answer post practice questions with “I’m just trying to get better every day, work hard and help the team win games.” Obviously, they’re allowed to expand on that if they’re able [as EVERY OTHER PLAYER ON THE TEAM DOES] …but that’s the basic boilerplate they’re supposed to launch off from. Jayden doesn’t use it as a launching point. He keeps repeating “I try to get better every day.” He’ll say it over a dozen times in a 3 minute interview. Huard talks about all the possibilities for a QB in Lincoln’s offense. Jayden just sticks with “my name is Jayden and I want to improve every day.” I don’t think he’ll ever be The Guy.

      3. Agree 67. His stats aren’t that impressive and most of his touchdowns, 11 of the 18, came against the three weakest teams Tennessee played. Tennessee has a much better offensive line than UCLA and Nico will have to once again face Ohio St. this year. Look for him to complain about a hamstring pull and miss the game. Bear Alexander would be proud.

      4. Maiava is SO high variance. He can make some outstanding throws, and some that once you see it leave his hand, you shut your eyes and hope for the best. Longstreet looked great last year and in the Polynesian Bowl, of course D1 is totally different, but he does have tremendous arm strength, can hurl it 78 yards. Not many NFL QBs can beat that.

      5. I certainly agree that Jayden can throw the football. He’s a great thrower. Unfortunately, there’s more to being QB than throwing. After the mistakes against Notre, Dame Lincoln tried to drill some situational do’s and don’t into Jayden for the Texas A & M game….. trying to remember what he was taught had Jayden looking confused for 57 outta the 60 minutes he played. Lemon got him off the hook by playing brilliant football at critical times.

  10. If your right MG, then hopefully Husan is ready. I think the kid has great potential. Just depends on how long it takes him to learn the offense and adjust to the college game. Huard may be solid as well. Former five star with a strong arm who Riley has repeatedly praised for his grasp of the offense.

Maiava also looks clueless with the RPO. He needs to fake the handoff and run 4 or 5 times a game. It is an easy 7 or 8 yards every time he does it. That’s how you get first downs.
