The offensive line and cornerback are positions where I believe USC has questions.
But after listening to Lincoln Riley discuss the linebacker position, I’m not so sure here either.
Eric Gentry is the biggest name returning but has been injury prone. Riley has mentioned Anthony Beavers, Desman Stephens and Jadyn Walker as other players he expects to play.
Beavers has played safety, nickelback and safety at USC. And mostly in the secondary. Walker only played in the Las Vegas Bowl while Stephens had 13 tackles in 13 games.
This feels like a lot of question marks.
Now you see why USC took Penn State linebacker Ta’Mere Robinson yesterday. Officially, it’s for depth but whose to say Robinson couldn’t show up and play immediately?
It just doesn’t look like a group you would think USC would field in Year 4 of the Lincoln Riley Era. Or maybe it does and that’s the problem.
Either way, it’s not reassuring.
- USC forward Rashaun Agee entered the transfer portal Tuesday night. That means at the moment, USC has just one player — Terrance Williams II — coming back from last season’s team.
Here’s a good one: Saint Thomas entered the transfer portal and doesn’t seem to have any eligibility. Quite a few players nationally are doing this. Why not? The NCAA seeems to be pretty powerless these days.
