The USC-Notre Dame Series Pressure Is Building

The future of the USC-Notre Dame series is starting to get more attention and now Pat Forde of Sports Illustrated has weighed in.

Forde reports Notre Dame wants a long-term extension but USC wants to only extend the deal one year. He says USC is reluctant because of “the uncertainty of the future College Football Playoff format” and the travel involved with the Big Ten schedule.

USC has suggested making the game the season-opener, Forde reports.

Here’s a quote from USC senior associate athletic director Cody Worsham.

“We want the USC–Notre Dame rivalry to continue, which is why we offered an extension of our agreement,” Worsham said. “It’s a special game to our fans and our institution. We will continue to work with Notre Dame on scheduling future games.”

Worsham seems to be the kind of guy who tries to put a positive public face on things.

THE BOTTOM LINE: It is amazing that Notre Dame — the team that actually made it to the national championship game last year — is the school trying to keep the rivalry going.

What gets me is that USC officials keep trying to please Lincoln Riley in all this. He is an overpaid coach who has done nothing at USC and shows no interest in the school’s traditions. So why cater to him?

Do we really want Riley deciding the future of the rivalry? He could be gone with the right job offer next year and USC fans would be the ones losing a traditional rival. Not him.

And for those who believe USC needs an easier schedule, a reminder the College Football Playoff is supposed to make strength of schedule more important going forward.

  1. Personally, I’d like to see what I refer to as a “provisional schedule” — one in which USC could cancel any game a week before kickoff if the team about to be played was ranked in the top 10 ….this would include Notre Dame….

      1. Once it becomes the Kick Off Classic then USC will be free to replace ND with other teams they know they can beat like Purdon’t.

“It’s become clear that the company and I do not agree on a path forward,” Wendy McMahon said in an email to staff just weeks after the top “60 Minutes” producer resigned.

DON: I originally sought $10 billion in damages, but earlier this year I amended the complaint and increased it to $20 billion.

    1. Predictably dem hack, David Axelrod, has called on everyone in the Unites States [and the rest of the World] to leave Biden alone out of respect for his illness….an illness made known 1 hour after the Hur tapes were released and calls for an investigation into the use of autopen by unauthorized people [like Susan Rice] began to dominate the airwaves……

  3. Scooter,,

This is why i have no confidence in Jen Taco Lita Cohen. She is AD. She is Riely’s boss. She needs to dictate not Riley. She needs to sign the agreement, unless she is a Riely fan and doesn’t want it herself. Do you think or Garrett would not resign in an instant if they were the AD? You bet they would. Cohen is keeping the fans and the schools in suspense

  8. KAM: President Trump is now openly questioning Senile Joe Biden’s doctor who signed off on his cognitive ability, noting that it takes a long time to advance to a Gleason score of 9, which places him in Grade Group 5, the most severe cancer category. Senile Joe Biden’s health had to be monitored closely when he was a heartbeat away from the White House for 2009-2017, yet his doctors then didn’t notice his rising PSA test score, order a biopsy which would provide a diagnosis and have the prostate removed? And then his doctor from 2021-2025 didn’t notice a thing in 2021?

DON: It takes a long time to get to that situation … to get to a stage nine. I think that if you take a look, it’s the same Dr. Kevin O’Connor from 2021-2024 who said that Senile Joe was cognitively fine, that there was nothing wrong with him… this doctor is either a liar or a quack and he must be disciplined by his state’s Medical Board for misleading America or committing malpractice.

  9. One more thing, it’s nice to see SC once again attracting (Paying?) some top-notch football talent, but the college game has lost a lot of its color as it has evolved into an NFL-Lite model

Or have you seen the stern look on these football athletes– they’re in college to make money

    1. First, I’ve read in several publications that what American doctors call Stage One cancer is called irregular cell formation in the United Kingdom [i.e., it’s not cancer — but our medical establishment is so set on expensive procedures they choose to call it cancer], secondly, Biden isn’t dying — his lawyers got doctors on their payroll to say he is in order to keep him from participating in the investigations on autopen & Afghanistan which reportedly are right around the corner.

Finally, if Pam Bondi requested the full blood results from Biden’s last 4 checkups Biden’s lawyers would say no —cuz the results would show there has NOT been a significant change in his prostrate health.
