USC Morning Buzz: Play Physical Football And Play Notre Dame

I spoke to a former USC All-American from the 1970’s what he thought of Lincoln Riley trying to get rid of the Notre Dame game.

“I really don’t want to comment too much because I have nothing good to say,” the player said. “He doesn’t understand how to play physical football or the importance of the rivalry. Those are two pretty big issues for USC football.”

  • USC has clinched the Crosstown Cup over UCLA. The Trojans lead, 110-70, with the final baseball points still pending.

Overall, USC has won 14 of the 23 Crosstown Cups, which was originally known as the Lexus Gauntlet.

    Ticket prices for the upcoming Fever games are dropping like lead weights.

    According to NBA Central, ticket prices for the upcoming Fever-Sky game have dropped from $86 a ticket to $25 a ticket!

  3. KAM: The SEC on Tuesday took a heightened interest in a 16-team College Football Playoff model that would include the five highest-ranked conference champions and 11 at-large bids.

    SEC commissioner Greg Sankey said he talked with the league’s football coaches at length about the alternative model. Sankey, the other FBS commissioners and Notre Dame athletic director Pete Bevacqua need to determine the playoff format for 2026 and beyond by Dec. 1. It’s a deadline Sankey said isn’t ideal for the SEC’s timing to determine if it wants to stay with eight conference games or change to nine.

    DON: 11 at large bids? Who determines that? They should go back to the pre-1997 system. This is TV executive madness.

    1. Maybe Trump will issue an executive order stating that a person must be fluent in English to receive a student visa or any type of work visa. That one should keep the courts busy.

  5. Why does the crosstown cup give each sport the same weight. Football is clearly more important than any other sport and the point system needs to reflect that fact. I say 50 points for football, 10 points for men basketball, 5 points for baseball, women basketball, men and women volleyball, and men and women track and field. All other sports get 2 points.

    2. In his interviews, LB coach Rob Ryan always talks about violence at the point of attack. If you don’t have that quality, he won’t recruit you. He seems old school but we will see. I like how Eric Gentry and Kamari Ramsey play with violence. We could use an edge rusher who puts the fear of God into a quarterback. We lacked big sacks last year. We should be much better this year with the interior defensive line transfers. Once you control the middle, your edge guys can go hog wild.

      1. Too much violence at the point of attack for Eric Gentry, who had to take off the rest of the 2024 season due to “a series of concussions” the first 4 games. Is football worth it for Eric if he ends up going the Junior Seau route in his 40s?

      4. I don’t disagree Normal Gabby. My point was football is a game you need to play at full throttle. Can’t play it worried about getting hurt. If Gentry gets another concussion he should seriously consider retiring from the game.

      5. We need to recruit more durable players. Some players like Jackie Slater can play in the NFL for 20 years. Others don’t last a season. I’m afraid Gentry is the latter.

Gavin Newsom just let a man dominate the WOMEN’S track competition. FAFO TIME for Newsom. NO men in women’s sports in America. This is such a losing issue for Democrats and it absolutely baffles me as to why they keep leaning in on it!
