USC defeated TCU, 13-1, for its first NCAA Tournament victory since 2015. The Trojans play the Oregon State-St. Mary’s winner on Saturday at 6 p.m.
Adrian Lopez went 3 for 5 with RBI and Richard Tejeda went 3 for 5 with 2 RBI to lead USC. Caden Aoki allowed 1 run and four hits in eight innings with no walks and six strikeouts.
- A reader sent in this story on the aftermath of the 1931 USC-Notre Dame game

- And here is the State Theatre circa 1938, where the USC-Notre Dame game film was shown. It is located at 703 S. Broadway and seats 2,422.

And unlike Lincoln Riley, SC actually beat a previously undefeated Tulane 21-12

Beautiful photograph of the Loew’s theatre on Broadway in Los Angeles, circa 1938. It is during the depression. People are dressed nicely and going out. No tents or homeless encampments. The way it should be.

KAM: Ranking the Big Ten’s toughest, easiest schedules in 2025: Oregon’s path clear, USC faces uphill climb.
2025 slate: George State, Missouri State, at Purdue, Michigan State, at Illinois, Michigan, at Notre Dame, at Nebraska, Northwestern, Iowa, at Oregon, UCLA
We’re not going to know much about the Trojans until Week 5 when they take their show on the road to Illinois. That’s the first of three straight games against potential top-20 competition. In November, USC goes to Nebraska and battles Oregon on the road.
DON: Sir Lincoln of Riley’s season will turn immediately sour if the Trojans fail to win their first two Big Ten matchups with Purdue and Michigan State, respectively.

KAM: ‘Varsity Blues’ USC Coach Gets New Trial on Fraud Charge. As coach, Vavic was paid to help unqualified but connected wealthy students pose as members of the water polo team and get admitted to USC, according to prosecutors. The scandal ensnared dozens of ultra-wealthy parents, Hollywood stars, USC administrators and coaches. Yet somehow Vavic was the only coach to go to trial and the man in charge of the Athletic Department that allowed the scheme, Pat Haden, escaped prosecution.
DON: Vavic was convicted in 2022, but granted a new trial after a district court found some evidence from the government wasn’t reliable.
For example, some of the payments from private equity investor John B. Wilson allegedly to secure his son’s admission went to the school’s water polo program, not Vavic, said Judge Indira Talwani of the US District Court for the District of Massachusetts.

If Vavic were a politician selling his influence this would be seen as normal behavior. No prosecution.

Great win in baseball, hopefully not overkill with very good pitching
and top hitting. Need to save some of those runs for the next game.
Too many times a team reverts to mediocrity the next day after a
convincing drubbing.

DON: Hate to be the one to break the news about SC football, but why should 2025 be any different than preceding years?
KAM: They had over 20-players quit on them after last season and that’s tough to replace. But SC has picked up the pace in recruting so there is a Trojan ‘future’ up ahead
