USC Morning Buzz: Football Fortress Makes Progress

Hey guys, I might be trying to end the Notre Dame series and I didn’t want to play LSU last year.

But look at how nice my new football fortress will be when it is finished.

The best part is it will have a parking space right near the door and I won’t even have to see anyone. I already don’t talk to anyone.

It’s going to be great!

But once I get it, what will I complain about? Oh right, I don’t want to play Notre Dame.

  1. Scooter,

Jen Taco Lita is too numb and dumb to get rid of Riley and herself. This era of SC football is mind numbing to say the least. The nil, riley being so soft that he makes Charmin seem like a prison wall, the AD not understanding SC sports, her not signing the agreement with nd, just makes SC pussif#d. when will this crap end?

      1. Michael,

I am pissed off how the AD, the president, and Riley have treated SC football as if it is a joke. They are just there for the paycheck. They can’t name you any history behind it, what it means to the City, County, State, and the nation. They can’t even name all 8 Heisman trophy winners. If they knew and cared, you would see a fire in their belly and ensure that they signed the agreement with nd, recruit like hell in CA, and not be wishy washy on the field. Riley is soft.

      2. 100%, P. T.

The USC sports brand is on the decline. A big year in football in 2025 can save it. A crap year can just about sink it.

      3. Since Bush is now suing us, can we at least remove his jersey from the coliseum. OJ killed a couple of people but his can stay.

      5. OJ was convicted of kidnapping and armed robbery and was sentenced to 33 years in prison but paroled after 9 years in state prison but SC still honors the unrepentant felon.

    1. It is not that USC doesn’t care about football, they do in the sense that they are spending enormous amounts. But those $$$ aren’t being used wisely – Haden as AD, Swann as AD Helton and replacing his coaching staff about 4 times, Riley, and replacing his coaching staff 1.5 times so far…

      1. It makes me sick when people complain about Helton firing coaches to save his job. The only coach Helton ever fired was Justin Wilcox. Oh, and Chris Wilson. And Keith Heyward. And Bob Connelly. And Clancy Pendergast. And John Baxter….. AND the great NEIL CALLAWAY……..

      2. P. S.

I was damn proud when Helton demonstrated his influence within the coaching profession and lured the much sought after Neil Callaway from his prestigious job at Western Kentucky to become USC’s Offensive Line Coach…..

      4. Bob Connelly was almost as bad. No college team at any level offered him a job after he was fired from SC. Ended up as an assistant coach for a high school.

    1. …or…on his Sunday television show …where he analyzed the games from his perspective as head coach….. he even showed up to do that show after the 51-0 massacre at the coliseum…..and he interviewed two Notre Dame players & congratulated them on their tough & rough style of play [while secretly vowing he would kick their butts the following year —which he did]…..

      1. Michael,

I remember that show. Stu Nahan was the host. Mckay would call next weeks games by saying SC will win because of this against the future opponent. They played Conquest. It was on ABC around 4 pm. on a Sunday

  2. You rebuild a program through the trenches. Our defensive line looks solid. It will be even better in two years. Our offensive line recruiting class is tremendous and last years class was good. We are going to have the talent to win a national championship in two years. Now, if we could do something about play calling and game management.

    1. All kidding aside, Agreed!

Any time you lose 9 games in the latter portions of the 4th quarter you have to cop to “game management” issues……

  3. KAM: NEW DOCS SHED LIGHT ON SENILE JOE FBI’S ANTI-CATHOLIC MEMO: ‘Apparently, We Are at the Behest of the SPLC,’ FBI Staffer Wrote in Response to Anti-Catholic Memo.

The FBI Richmond office’s notorious anti-Catholic memo reached more staff at the bureau than previously suggested, and some FBI staff were aghast to see it, according to new documents released by Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, Tuesday.

The memo urged FBI agents to develop sources and surveil Catholic churches, citing the Southern Poverty Law Center’s list of “radical traditional Catholic hate groups.” The SPLC’s “hate map” plots conservative and Christian groups alongside Ku Klux Klan chapters. While the SPLC claims to be exposing “the infrastructure upholding white supremacy,” critics say it uses the map to silence political opponents.

The FBI rushed to rescind the document after a whistleblower leaked it in February 2023. Then-FBI Director Christopher Wray testified in July 2023 that the memo came from “a single product by a single field office, which, as soon as I found out about it, I was aghast and ordered it withdrawn and removed from FBI systems.” Yet Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, has claimed Wray may have lied under oath because multiple FBI offices were involved in creating the memo.

Grassley announced Tuesday that he found evidence that the memo had been disseminated to at least 1,000 FBI staff.

“Is anyone really asking for a product like this?” an FBI employee in Phoenix, Arizona, wrote in a February 2023 email responding to the memo. “Apparently we are at the behest of the SPLC…”

An FBI employee in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, responded, “And yeah, our overreliance on the SPLC for hate designations is … problematic.”

In addition to these emails, Grassley found the FBI produced at least 13 additional documents and five attachments that used the term “radical traditionalist Catholic” and relied on the SPLC.

DON: How odd that this was happening during the Biden administration; the media assured me that “It’s not a detail he highlights, but people who know him well say his Catholic faith is central to how he sees the world. Biden, who carries a rosary in his pocket and attends Mass every Sunday, is known as a deeply devout person of faith, and his campaign sees electoral implications in that — in part because Biden has tried to frame this election as a clear moral contrast between Trump and himself.”

But then, the media assured me last year that “This version of Biden, intellectually, analytically, is the best Biden ever. Not a close second, and I’ve known him for years. The Brzezinskis have known him for 50 years. If it weren’t the truth, I wouldn’t say it.”

  4. Someone should play a harmless college prank and drape a large banner over the construction that says:

    “Play Notre Dame every year!”

  5. KAM: Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy threatened Wednesday to pull federal grants for California’s High-Speed Rail Authority after it spent nearly $7 billion in taxpayer funds over a decade and a half without laying a single foot of track.

In a more than 300-page report, Duffy detailed the missed deadlines and stretched budget for the long-running project — and gave the Golden State’s high-speed rail office 37 days to respond or lose out on around $4 billion in grants.

“This report exposes a cold, hard truth: CHSRA has no viable path to complete this project on time or on budget,” he said.

DON: The latest estimates from the California High-Speed Rail Authority suggest it will cost between $88 billion and $128 billion to complete the entire system from LA to San Francisco. I

    1. Directly after Caltrans finished work on the retrofitted Oakland Bridge two of the undersea pillars cracked & billions more had to be spent. Citizens said “do it with property tax money.” The state said “oh, we wasted that a long time ago —if you want a safe bridge pass a bond measure.”

  6. I believe Governor Newsom initially estimated 2 billion. That was in the referendum details. People voted in favor of the bullet train based on this cost estimate. Now its 88 billion to 128 billion to complete after spending 7 billion and laying no track. Why is there no criminal investigation. There had to be some graft and fraud involved.

    1. Answer: Cuz this is how government works —at all levels. If an investigation was launched it would lead to investigations against the people who launched it…..
