USC Notes: What We Be Remembered In 50 Years?

After USC beat Notre Dame in 1970, John McKay said, “Fifty years from now our seniors can sit around the fireplace and say they never lost to Notre Dame.”

That’s a foreign concept to Lincoln Riley and Chad “Charmin” Bowden, who would rather say, “Fifty years from now our seniors can sit around the fireplace and say the Big Ten got four automatic berths in the College Football Playoff!”

  • USC basketball held a workout this morning and Chad Baker-Mazara, the transfer from Auburn, had a revealing quote.

“You put crazy and crazy together, and it might just work,” Baker-Mazara said about his relationship with Eric Musselman.

I’ve written since Day 1 that Musselman has a volatile personality that is illustrated by all the assistant coaches he has gone through as a head coach (he already replaced one at USC).

And when Baker-Mazara transferred to USC, I’d heard he was a handful from some college basketball sources.

So keep on eye on this situation during the season.

U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer said Trump overstepped his bounds in ordering the deployment of roughly 4,000 National Guard members to LA after protests erupted over the immigration crackdown. The order, which takes effect at noon Friday, applies only to the National Guard troops and not Marines who were also deployed to the city.

    “Today was really about a test of democracy, and today we passed the test,” Gov. Gavin Newsom, who had asked the judge for an emergency stop to troops helping carry out immigration raids, said in a news conference after the decision.

  9. That 1970 Coach McKay line of 4-year Seniors (back in the day) “Never having lost to Notre Dame” should be tempered as there was a tie in that 4-years, I believe

    I bet there are SC players who still regale over that 1974 Notre Dame win, a game that went “down in history”. Those men would all be well into their 70s now

    Or the 1964 team that amazingly beat No. 1 Notre Dame. But those chaps would be in their 80s and probably most are in ‘heaven’ already
