Sunday Buzz: One Team Losing The Transfer Portal

Five-star linebacker Xavier Griffin, who previously had been committed to USC, committed to Alabama today.

  • Another blow for USC baseball as relief pitcher Brodie Purcell has entered the transfer portal. Purcell was an All-Big Ten second team selection this year with a 2.11 ERA. He had 51 strikeouts and 19 walks in 42.2 innings pitched.

USC isn’t exactly moving into the new Dedeaux Field (or whatever it might call it) in style given that it lost its best pitcher, a top relief pitcher and second-best hitter to the transfer portal. I’d love to know what USC is giving the baseball program in NIL right now.

      The word “people” is already the plural form of “person”. It’s used to refer to a group of individuals. While “persons” is technically the more formal plural of “person,” especially in legal contexts,  “people” is the common and accepted plural in most everyday situations, according to Merrian-Webster. There’s also the word “peoples,” which refers to distinct groups of people with their own cultures or nation.

  3. USC administration doesn’t care about baseball 75% of NIL goes to FB I would assume. With so many players on the roster y would you commit more than 2% 2 baseball n 5% 2 WBB, that’s y all the freshman transfered out or was it # 3 recruit coming either way. Breakdown of NIL MBB 5% M&W Track 3.5% and 0.5 % for all sports programs. Maybe each team must create a NIL collective that’s tied to SC programs that don’t generate ,$$$ and is televised nationally

    1. I have never seen this breakdown Eric. What is your source? Very surprised that this administration would allocate 75% to football although I think that is the right number.

      USC really messed with the baseball program. Displaced the team for two years so Riley could build a 200 million Taj Mahal for the football team, which was unnecessary given the McKay Center was a very good facility. Now they won’t pay to retain All Conference players. I bet Andy Stankiewicz bolts and he is a very good coach.

  7. Great stats for Purcell, 51 K , 19 BB in 41 innings, 2.11 ERA, what shame to lose him.

    With Xavier Griffin, I read NIL of $280K, which apparently won’t cut it for a 5 star linebacker.

I can’t imagine a recruit visiting USC – given a tour of the location, the entertainment/film capital of the world, opportunities in finance, real estate, technology, ect.; a beautiful campus just a few miles from LA Live, Crypto Arena, exclusive restaurants and nightclubs; phenomenal weather just a short drive to the beach; a top 20 academic school; great alumni connections, a concentration of multi millionaires and billionaires, titans of industry; great defensive football coaches including position coach Rob Ryan; and then deciding that his future is in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. C’mon, has anyone visited Tuscaloosa. My wife’s cousin visited Santa Monica last summer and almost wet her pants when she saw the Pacific ocean. Absolutely loved the weather and nightlife. It was hard for her to leave. I think Mr. Xavier Griffin will regret his decision.

  9. Can you even begin to imagine how terrified Gabriella is of the growing patriotic sentiment in this country? How does she deal with it? She posts low production cost videos of Trump engaging in all the stuff she fantasizes about …and this helps her get over her pain ….but for only about 8 minutes….then she gets terrified all over again …. and needs to post another low production value video …. and this relieves her fear…. but only for another 8 minutes…..

    1. Yup! It’s all stuff she secretly fantasizes about. That’s why she posts it under someone else’s name. She’s embarrassed of who she really is and refuses to come out of the closet.

      It’s really quite sad. I still pray for her.
