USC president Carol Folt’s tenure/reign officially ends at midnight today.
But the relief many employees expected to feel this week has now turned to anxiety as layoffs and budget cuts loom with an announcement expected soon. It could come as soon as Tuesday because Folt did not want USC to disclose its financial problems until she left office.
Like people would think she wasn’t responsible if it got announced after she left.
I cannot remember USC ever mulling laying off 6 percent of its workforce, so it’s got to be a complete shock to the rank-and-file workers.
As Folt leaves, a lot of people are wondering if she was worse than Max Nikias, who resigned in disgrace and was still paid nearly $900,000 in 2023. They both had a propensity for throwing employees under the bus on a whim, so that’s a wash at least.
Remember how Folt hired Mike Bohn and then never explained why she actually fired him or took responsibility for the hire?
Whoever succeeds Folt needs to rebuild the trust that was lost with the past two presidents. USC might take a year to hire a new president and this is fine with lot of employees because interim president Beong-Soo Kim is viewed as popular figure on campus.
USC needs a people person in charge whether it’s the school president, athletic director or football coach. That sounds like a simple thing to say but how many times does USC get it wrong?
Was Lane Kiffin a people person at USC? Were Pat Haden or Lynn Swann? Was Folt?
Here’s a question: Would USC’s financial predicament make it less likely to fire Lincoln Riley?
We haven’t heard much from Rick Caruso lately and he had his hands on the hiring of Folt and Riley. He remains a member of the Board of Trustees.

Agree that the make-up of the student body is the biggest change. I don’t understand why USC could not have continued to catered to local students and maintained their status as a top academic school. Seriously, who wants to pay $100,000 to go to a school with 5,000 students from Red China and a jew hating valedictorian who wears a hijab. I doubt that the current student body has any interest in watching something as American as a college football game. And the frat party with a keg after the game is likely a thing of the past.

The social media like tiktok, instagram, games or even the coputer have taken away one aspect of college life and that is to be involved. Kids now a days just go to class and get back into their enviornment where they do not have to interact with one another.

PT: How do you develop social skills, friendships or perhaps meet your future spouse. I think your right and it saddens me. If your not interested in meeting people, you should just take classes on line and save 90K per year.

KAM: Most of the younger alumni like soccer, not USC football.
DON: USC blew it when they brought in egghead Steven Sample who made it his policy to inform USC into The Stanford of the West. He and his successors flooded the campus with lib administrators from lib colleges like UCSB to push DIE policies and the tradition was lost.

They’re canceling 4th of July celebrations in hispanic communities, but I don’t know why that’s a problem. Most of them were waving Mexican flags during the protests. So the 4th doesn’t mean anything to them, except an opportunity to eat & drink too much.
